don't know if he wanted a break after 2 huge paydays or if he was avoiding, a so called hot division, but I am curious to get your opinion of what made the division hotter than any other time.Comment

Prime undefeated Cotto
Margarito who had been at the top of the rankings and the divisions longest reigning titlist.
Paul Williams
Shane Mosley
Manny Pacquiao
all fighting eachother, and thats not even including tough matchups Josh Clottey and Cintron.
Now, the division is flaccid and people want to point at Floyd and say, "LOOK LOOK, HES FIGHTING THE BEST RANKED WELTERWEIGHTS!"Comment

From 06-09
Prime undefeated Cotto - agreed
Margarito who had been at the top of the rankings and the divisions longest reigning titlist. - A paper champ..Fought higher ranked guys anyways
Paul Williams - agreed
Shane Mosley - beat him anyways
Manny Pacquiao - Both at fault
all fighting eachother, and thats not even including tough matchups Josh Clottey and Cintron.

The bold, like Mosley, Cotto, Ortiz and Guerrero, I'm glad you added possible. Pretty soon it'll be Canelo and that will eventually be seen as a cherry pick, ain't nothing change man.Comment

Whether Williams fought just one or not, he was fighting and not making excuses to avoid any of them. When none wanted Paul, he went up and fought bigger guys, not retire. No matter how you try to slice it, Floyd avoided a very tough era in the welterweight division. The place was lighting hot with very good matchups.Comment

Manny destroyed Cotto. and during those years, he was fighting at 130 in 06 to 08. Then he moved up to 135, 140 and 147.

Cotto wasn't prime or undefeated. Sorry.Comment

I have noticed this as well. Its one of those things where on the outside people will have a different criteria than those on the inside. I can imagine that as a boxer to see another boxer have almost complete command over his career the way Mayweather has as well as dictate who he fights has to be something they admire and strive for. To make as much money as he has while avoiding large amounts of punishment has to be a desire for most boxers.
But for fans its almost the opposite. We want to see "blood and guts" warriors who take on all challenges. Although that endears them more to fans it does not always result in the best business moves and can have long term affects depending on how much punishment you take.Comment

You know as well as I do none of the fights with the Top Rank guys were gonna happen. NO GO!! and I blame Uncle Bob for that.
and you do realize when Mayweather went on vacay or duck season or whatever you wanna call it after the Hatton fight; Manny was fighting a couple weight classes below. He came up during the Mayweather break.
Mosley was called out way before this time period, but he didn't want the fight then, he said I will let Oscar take him.Comment
