The Oscar he fought definitely had so much experience with fast handed fighters like Whitaker. Canelo has never fought anybody with the timing and speed Floyd has. On the flip side Floyd hasn't fought a legit big time JMW besides ODLH and some would argue ODLH had lost a step by that time. Outside of JMM, Floyd hasn't really had someone really test his boxing IQ lately like Canelo will. Canelo isn't going to try to wear Mayweather down with an all out pressure assault. He's going to look to KO Mayweather with the accurate shot upstairs. I view that ODLH as even as far as knockout threat with Canelo because he was looking for the KO and was as motivated as ever for that fight. Canelo will be sharper than Oscar was though and is still a KO threat if he can land the big shot. He figures to eventually find Mayweather as even Guerrero landed a few to the face on Money. This fight will once again expose some of the decline in Floyd the way the Cotto fight did. Canelo paces himself and he will be able to do it with Floyd because Floyd has to respect the big counter shot. Mayweather won't be beating the dog shat out of canelo like he did Guerrero. He won't take as many offensive risks in this fight. He will do what he has to do to win the rounds and thats it. Floyd has lost a step and Canelo has not quite entered his prime yet. If this fight happens in 2 years the scale tips in canelo's favor. If it happens now Floyd by UD in a win that will be slightly more difficult than the ODLH fight.

Don't know about whooped but he certainly was the smarter man in that ring picking his shots.

De La Hoya, even then, was still a very intelligent fighter with good speed, good power, a good chin and a huge amount of experience against top level fighters. He also had better stamina than Canelo does.

However, Canelo is young and strong, very powerful and showed decent defence in his last fight. I think they provide different challenges to Mayweather, neither is necessarily greater. But if I had to pick one, I'd say DLH was a harder challenge.

Canelo needs to hook up with a trainer that will teach him how to counter punch and have a better defense.
Funny, because these are the 2 aspects of his game(counter punching and defense) that I was impressed with in his last fight.

Alvarez doesnt have the stamina to stand in there with Floyd. And he will be outclassed silly. And Im not a big Money May fan.

Basically the scenario I see as well

WTF? Oscar De La Hoya vs Canelo would look like Oscar De La Hoya vs Fernando Vargas

Canelo don't have Oscar skills...not even ***in close, your talking about a Gold Medal Winner and a well rounded BOXER who had a excellent jab and his defense was extremely underrated which is why he never took much damage to the face and doesn't sound Punch Drunk after his Career, Oscar was excellent at parrying punches, even Mayweather too a few rounds to get around Oscar's Guard

Canelo is no ***in Oscar De La Hoya...NOT EVEN CLOSE!

That was 2002 Oscar, were talking about the one may fought in 07 when he was flat footed/slow footed, had average speed and was a part time fighter...

And tbh I think their both equally tough fights for Floyd, maybe lean towards canelo based on youth and a better straight right
