WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs) is planning to finish his career at the end of his lucrative multi-year contract with Showtime. The deal called for a total of six fights within a 30 month period.

Mayweather completed his first fight of the deal on Saturday night, when he easily won a twelve round unanimous decision over Robert Guerrero at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The second fight of the deal is scheduled to take place on September 14th, also at the MGM Grand.

Mayweather is a HOF shoe-in. Can't believe he'd retire at 49-0 though. If he is able to stay undefeated, go out at 50-0.

He'll probably come back a couple of years later and pull pac out of retirement for win number 50.

I wonder why boxing greats dont retire at the common number of fights, Ali had 61, Foreman had 81, Marciano didnt go for 50-0, Mayweather can beat Canelo and retire at 45-0 because he has nothing left to prove.

Well he's an ATG no doubt but boxing will do fine without him.

In my BOOK, so far Mayweather is very good, not yet great.

One of the top two fighters that I can remember fighting the best quality competition was HOLYFIELD and TRINIDAD. Seems like they would fight the top guys at their time. That is something you hardly see now. Money, which is understandable to a point, seems to be before quality opponent.

Floyd has hinted he would like to fight in England but of course this is old news.
