"To put the show’s ratings in perspective, fewer viewers tuned into the free-TV show than the 2.4 million pay-per-view buys generated in his May 2007 win over Oscar de la Hoya."

But the million dollar questions are...who was the superstar for the 2.4 million buys? Who was the bigger draw?

Ok let's have some details on PPV before the two faced each other.

    Here some facts:

Apr 12, 1997 Oscar De La Hoya vs. Pernell Whitaker 720,000[11]

Sep 18, 1999 Oscar De La Hoya 1,400,000[9]

Sep 14, 2002 Oscar De La Hoya vs. Fernando Vargas 935,000[11]

Sep 13, 2003 Oscar De La Hoya vs. Shane Mosley 2 950,000[11]

May 6, 2006 Oscar De La Hoya vs. Ricardo Mayorga 925,000[12]

    VS.

Jun 25, 2005 Floyd Mayweather vs. Arturo Gatti 365,000
Apr 8, 2006 Floyd Mayweather vs. Zab Judah 374,000
Nov 4, 2006 Floyd Mayweather vs. Carlos Baldomir 325,000

Using the 2.4 million buys against the Golden Boy to prove Mayweather's (high) rate in boxing is not only extremely biased, it's also...LAUGHABLE

    I now rest my case.

You probably can't get less then 1 million viewers on primetime network TV...but you are just being an ignorant fanboy.

Either way, as shown by the UFC/Floyd/Pac, there is a ceiling of tops 2 million viewers for these hype shows, which all in all is bad.
Fan boy...lmao! No massive Mexican fanbase would elevate Canelo to a high television rating on CBS on a Saturday night, sorry!
