Comments Thread For: Broner; I Let Malignaggi Know That I'm F***ing Him Up!

The Friday afternoon weigh-in festivities were full of drama and adventure heading into this weekend’s showdown between Danny ‘Swift’ Garcia and Zab Judah at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The main event fighters were deliberately kept apart, while the co-feature performers – Peter Quillin and Fernando Guerrero – both required two tries to make weight for their middleweight title fight.

Keeping the crowd entertained during the afternoon’s multiple delays was a verbal spat between two more future rivals. Brooklyn’s own Paul Malignaggi exchanged words with unbeaten Adrien Broner the moment the two spotted each other.

    check your facts

What a hack job on Burns. You should do some proper research before you badmouth people.

Ricky Burns didn't pull out of a Broner fight twice. Broner tried to get him in the ring at 6 weeks notice, and for pennies. Burns rightly turned him down. Burns then decided to take on Vasquez, the plan being to go back to the bargaining table with 2 titles to Broner's 1, this being the only way he could force a fair deal out of Broner. The Vasquez fight fell apart cause Frank Warren is a spiv. Vasquez said himself that the deal wasn't even signed.

    Facts.

I don't think Broner will be able to stop Malignaggi. I think it will be a split decision for one of the two.

                  Facts.
                  Attempt #1:
8/29/2011 - Burns and Broner verbally agree to terms for a Nov. 2011 showdown.
Sources within Scotland have advised BoxingScene.com that a deal has been reached for Ricky Burns (39-2, 9 KOs) to defend his WBO super featherweight championship against undefeated Adrien Broner (21-0, 17 KOs). Burns will provide Broner with the homefield advantage by traveling to the United States to face Broner at the U.S. Bank Arena in place Cincinnati. HBO will televise the fight. Broner's promoter, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, confirmed the information to Lem Satterfield of RingTV.com.

9/1-9/5/2011 - Burns prepares for training camp, insists he's ready to shock Broner
WBO super featherweight champion Ricky Burns is ready for the challenge of undefeated Adrien Broner, the mandatory challenger. Burns will travel to Broner's backyard of Cincinnati on the 26th of November

WBO super featherweight champion Ricky Burns (39-2, 9 KOs) has a strategy in mind for his upcoming defense against undefeated Adrien Broner (21-0, 17 KOs), which is tentative for November 26th at the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati. After watching a few of Broner's recent fights, Burns noticed that he likes to fight in a Mayweather-like pace, and waits on his opponent to land hard counter punches. Burns is going to push the action and make Broner work outside of his usual pace.

9/6/2011 - Burns suddenly decides he can no longer make weight, moves up to 135 and backs out of deal
WBO super featherweight champion Ricky Burns may be on the verge of vacating his title for a move to the lightweight division. Contrary to numerous reports stating that Burns is traveling to the United States to face mandatory challenger Adrien Broner on November 26th - Burns' manager, Alex Morrison, appeared on BBC Radio and said the fight is in doubt because Burns is having issues with making the weight.

According to promoter Frank Warren, WBO super featherweight champion Ricky Burns (39-2, 9KOs) is going to move up to the lightweight division. Burns was slated to face mandatory challenger Adrien Broner (21-0, 17KOs) on November 26th in Cincinnati. But, earlier this week the champion's manager, Alex Morrison, advised his boxer to turn the fight down. Morrison disclosed that his fighter is struggling to make the division limit of 130-pounds.

                  Attempt #2
10/2/2012 - Burns speaks of wanting to fight Broner, even though Broner still six weeks away from DeMarco fight at the time
WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns says he was never ducking a mandatory fight with Adrien Broner in 2011. As the mandatory fight was ordered and negotiations were starting to play out, Burns vacated his belt and made a move to the lightweight division.

11/18/2012 - Immediately after Broner bludgeons DeMarco, talks turn to Burns showdown, targeting a February date and mentioned by DLH that "the fight has already been discussed a few months back." Burns still has pending fight with Jose Ocampo (Liam Walsh was already injured and withdrew by this point)
Oscar De La Hoya sees great talent in Adrien Broner. Or, rather, talents. "Broner, to me, is Floyd Mayweather, [Bernard] Hopkins, myself — you can name them all — all wrapped into one,” De La Hoya said at the post-fight press conference shortly after Broner dispatched of Antonio DeMarco in Atlantic City. “He can box. He can stay in front of you. He likes to fight.” De La Hoya said Broner’s performance showed him to be a special fighter.

12/7/2012 - Broner-Burns aggressively pursued for Feb. 2013 showdown. Burns eight days away from Ocampo tuneup, would still leave him time to recover and then six weeks to train.
BoxingScene has been advised by sources that WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner (25-0, 21KOs) will likely fight Ricky Burns (35-2, 10KOs), the WBO's champion, in February on HBO, should Burns be available after his fight on Dec. 15 against Jose Ocampo (17-5-1, 12KOs) in London.

12/16/2012 - Burns once again formally offered a unification fight with Broner, having already been through a training camp and still two months to prepare for such a fight. Burns' manager advises Burns to NOT take the fight, instead eye a 1/26 return
RICKY BURNS, the World Boxing Organization lightweight champion from Coatbridge, has been offered the unification bout he craves against the undefeated American Adrien Broner. Richard Schaefer, chief executive of Broner's promoter, Golden Boy, confirmed at the weekend that he has been in discussions with counterpart Frank Warren, who looks after Burns' interests, with a proposal that the fight takes place in Atlantic City on February 16.

1/8/2013 - Burns' camp completely screws the pooch in getting him back to ring, delay return to late Feb/early March, after failing to secure an opponent for nearly a month
Timing is everything when it comes to winning in the ring. Ricky Burns has conquered that aspect in spades in recent years, but the timing required for actually getting into the ring has proven to be a bear for the streaking lightweight titlist. Yet another fight date has been pulled from under his feet, as a proposed January 26 title defense in Glasgow is no longer on the table. A projected return in late February or early March marks the third separate targeted next fight date for Burns, who hasn’t fought since his 4th round knockout over Kevin Mitchell last September.

1/14/2013 - Announcement made that Burns will face Miguel Vazquez in a unification on March 16. Timing gives him two months to train - the same exact amount of time he would have been granted had he accepted the fight w/ Broner after his 12/15 showcase fell through.
Promoter Frank has put together a blockbuster event ‘Rule Britannia’ on Saturday 16th March at Wembley Arena featuring some of the biggest stars in British boxing including Ricky Burns, Nathan Cleverly, George Groves, Dereck Chisora and Liam Walsh, all live and exclusive on the Home of Champions BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546). WBO World Lightweight Champion Burns headlines the show in a sizzling unification showdown against tough Mexican IBF World Champion Miguel Vazquez. Burns, 27, returns to action following his tremendous 2012 when he become Scotland’s first two-weight world champion in twenty years and ended the year stopping long-time rival Kevin Mitchell inside four rounds.

After that came all of the nonsense of Burns-Vazquez on again, off again before Burns left Warren and thus the fight as well.

You were saying? Nothing, that's what you were saying. Nothing at all.
