I got Miguel Cotto by UD!

Cotto doesn't move like Trout, he doesn't throw as much as Trout and if he wants to land body shots, he needs to get close. That would be a bad decision on his part because while there isn't much difference in height, there a big difference in natural size and that's something most don't understand.I'm tempted to say Canelo stomps on Cotto, but it's not like he's that got a huge height advantage over Cotto. Canelo doesn't fight the full 3 minutes of a round. The fighters that give Cotto fits are the same ones Hopkins has trouble with: volume punchers. The only exception to this was Mayweather, but he's in a class of his own.
What Canelo has over all of Cotto's conquerors is his explosive power. Pacquiao had explosivity, but Canelo is a HUGE super welter that comes in at super middleweight on fight night.
His uppercut is very strong and snappy, which will pose a great threat as it exploits Cotto's weakness.
Canelo is not as active as someone like Margarito, but he is a tremendous body puncher and is able to mix it to the head and body during combinations. If Canelo unleashes with Cotto languishing on the ropes, it could put Cotto on the defensive real quick.
Cotto's key to victory would be to test Canelo's supposed lack of stamina by investing in body work whenever he can. Canelo can also be outboxed but in a close fight, Cotto doesn't have a chance given how Canelo would be the undefeated champion. He would have to look very convincing to win that fight.
I wouldn't even entertain the idea of Cotto by stoppage as I just don't see that happening.
As of NOW, I got Canelo by a wide decision as Cotto gets on the backfoot in the last fourth of the fight.
Canelo is the bigger man, he built more solid, hits much harder and is going to be looking for Cotto to stand in front of him. Trout said after the fight that Canelo didn't look so big in the weigh in but he was surprised as to how strong he was.
I also don't think that Cotto is that much better of a boxer than Canelo. I think people are still thinking about Canelo 2 years ago and not what we saw this past Saturday night.
I think Cotto is the more polished boxer and has a better jab but Canelo's counter punching skills, speed and power would eventually overwhelm Cotto because he's not the same fighter and doesn't move the same way he once did.
Canelo by stoppage or even possible KO.Comment

DId anyone take a look at Miguel's face after floyd and trout? If 65% jabs and 35% power punches did that level of damage, how bad will it be when its 85% pp/15% jabs from a more active harder puncher?Comment

Love Cotto but this fight might be too much for him. Canelo with his speed and power might overwhelm him. Yes Canelo has stamina issues and Cotto could take advantage, but for how long if Cotto has stamina issues of his own. I'd root for Cotto but I think Canelo wins and it wouldnt surprise me if it was by knockout.Comment

Cotto hasn't been a body snatcher for well over 3 years. I don't understand why he went away from that style. He hardly goes to the body anymore and it's a riddle to me. Trout admitted to having sore ribs and kidneys after his scrap with Cotto and that's with Miguel not going to the body consistently. If Miguel stayed committed to a consistent body attack he'd only have 2 losses on his record today. (Mayweather and Pacquiao).
Believe me, there are only a handful of bigger Cotto fans than me and although I give him a decent chance to beat Canelo, at this point in both of their careers I'd have to give the nod to Canelo. Late stoppage or wide UD. I don't see Miguel winning the last 5 rounds against the young star.Comment

will have to watch cotto to remember exactly how he fights, but one thing i know for sure is cotto likes to give alot of freebies, and really steps in with his jabs and canelo loves to counter jabsComment

Canelo will be too much for him at this stage imo. Canelo kind of outboxed Trout... Which surprised the hell out of me. Cotto has a good jab and underrated speed BUT Canelo will be right there with him. Canelo can go to the body harder at this stage and I'm sure thats exactly what he'll do. Make sure Cotto who has a questionable tank as well stops moving and when he does he'll be in trouble. I have Canelo by stoppage as much as I'd love to hang on Cotto's nuts... Styles make fights and I personally think this is a worse matchup for Cotto than Trout was for him. IF Cotto decides to attack the body he's in deep s hit against that uppercut... Hell...call me crazy or ****** but a part of me thinks that Cotto wouldn't beat Canelo even in his prime... I think Canelo is just an awful matchup for any Cotto. Just so strong, sturdy, accurate and apparently skilled...
Watching canelo this past Sat reminded me of an interview of GGG who said Canelo gave him the hardest/best sparring. That he was really skilled and strong.Last edited by NearHypnos; 04-23-2013, 11:28 AM.Comment
