  • Boy was I wrong about Rigondeaux.

Rigo showed it all yesterday. He showed respectable power, speed, a jab, great defense, parrying with punches, a chin...and ring generalship. Rigo clearly won the fight. I reserved the right to judge him on his inexperience, but he looked like the experienced fighter last night.

I don't think Donaire was ready for a fight like this. I think he had too much stuff on his mind outside of the fight along with no right hand which was the difference in the fight. Side note: Andre Ward and Donaire have similar styles, and imo both don't have natural right hands which is why I was not totally, totally sold on them like I am with Broner, but I figured their heart would take them far. You need more than heart and a hook in this game. Donaire has met his Rigo, Ward hasn't yet. I thought Donaire would catch Rigo. Boy was I wrong.

Rigo said that you can't win a fight with one punch, and he was right. Props to Rigo. I was a definite critic of his, but he proved himself to me in this fight. Donaire should've kept the pressure on from round 1, but I think he felt Rigo's power early, and found out that he couldn't just walk in on Rigo.

Donaire showed one hell of a chin, but the night belongs to Rigo. Rigo just about shut Donaire out in my book outside of the knocked down.

I don't think anyone expected what they saw last night. Not even Rigo's fans!

You gained some respect with having* to admit you were wrong and then lost it right back with "I dont think even rigo fans expected that"

I was too. I thought Rigo might win. I didn't expect him to dominate a top 5 pfp fighter like he did though.

I also really underestimated Rigo and his skills. Very fast, powerful, accurate, moved brilliantly etc.

I was always bored by his previous fights, and this one wasnt so much better, but it was fascinating to watch him handle Nonito. But saying that, i was a big Nonito fan and feel really disappointed with his lack of desire to win. Ok, he was being outboxed, but he never really applied sustained pressure. Even after the knock down he threw very little, protecting his eye. He seemed to be lacking in boxing skills, didnt use the jab, and didnt show real heart in the last 3 rounds.
Plus him mentioning his shoulder at the end was bad.

That's not true. There were ppm who acknowledged that Rigo could dominate donaire. The thing is most ppl underrated rigo and overrated donaire. Now all of a sudden everyone acts like Rigo is a god. This site is so fickle. Rigo has been good if anyone cared to see. And Donaire has been all flash and little substance for everyone to see as well. Not many wanted to notice tho and this is what happens. I enjoyed this fight immensely.

No offense, and I'm not saying this in hindsight as I have post from years ago saying the same thing; You don't fight that many amateur fights, accomplish what rigo has accomplished and still be "inexperienced".

Over 400 Amateur fights>>> a 20-25 fight pro career against cans, bums, and step ups (ala Alvarez).

Due to the opponents he has faced, I'm sure Rigo has seen everything in the ring which is why he fought so well against Donaire. Now I thought Donaire would win via KO (just because Nonito is a big puncher and Rigo has shown habits of having not tucking his chin or standing straight up after punches), but I knew he wouldn't outbox Rigo.

However I do agree with you on being impressed with Rigo. I would have never expected him to dominate Donaire the way he did and this guy shown the world that he is easily top 3 most skilled fighters in the sport of boxing.

I can honestly say I expected it. I think people just thought I was being silly though and buying into the guys amateur credentials.

Good of you to admit it but I really can not see ''Andre Ward and Donaire have similar styles'' at all.

I expected Rigo to win in dos rounds

However all the Rigotards (including me) knew that Rigod was going to win by rigannihilation
