I wonder which side requested it.

If it was Matthysse because he wanted to keep his WBC mandatory spot, then that might be a bad move because it's not clear if Garcia will keep the WBC or WBA.

If it was Peterson, bitch move.

You're right... They keep switching this bs. Matthysse vs Peterson was supposed to be the main event. I wonder if they switched it back to Alexander vs Brook or if its a BScene mistake...

If he doesn't fight Matthysse he would have to vacate though.

Matthysse can lose to Peterson and still be the WBC mando. He's in the same position he was before. He's not getting "screwed over" at all.
You're right and it leads me to believe they do wanna make Matthysse vs Garcia but we dunno for sure. This is still a crap move.

Fighters can still unify but they just cant keep the belt. So in the end they're still unified. Know what I mean?

What makes you think this wasn't Schaefer's idea? This looks like a classic case of promoter scheming to me.

This whole tourney smelled funky to me from the beginning so I wouldn't be surprised.

I actually think its smart. I would do it all the time. Just keepin it real. If I was a promoter and both of my guys have the belt. The fans still get to see the fight they want but both by guys come out with there belts. Not only that but you might get to make alot more big fights because guys wouldnt be scared to lose there belts.

You lose unifications but the main thing is that the guys fought eachother and thats what we all want. Thats what will carry the weight.

what a joke. so much for all that talk about a 140 lb tourney. why would two top light welterweights (who both hold some type of belt) face off 1 lb above the 140 limit? the ibf belt being on the line added some excitement tbh. if matthysse won, he'd finally be a legit world champ (at least on paper). if peterson won, he'd have a great win and wash away some of the controversy he still has from the khan fight. fuck golden boy for whatever reason they're doing this.

This sport is about the fighters and the match-ups. I could care less about the belts any more. As long as they make this fight, I'm happy.
