Would he be fully proven and tested to be considered as Martinez biggest opponent (if he already isn't)?

It doesn't change much as far as I'm concerned. I don't really rate Macklin that highly and wouldn't be surprised if Golovkin got him out in 3.

It would be his best win but the drop off from Martinez to the rest of MW is hard to gauge how good he is compared to Martinez.

If he did that, then I expect him to continue to fight JMWs, cause I'm not sure any other real MW would want any parts of him. Except for a tv time/payday. Macklin is skilled with a decent chin. He was giving it to Maravilla for a good 5 or 6 rounds before Maravilla adjusted. Definitely a world class fighter and shouldn't be taken lightly.

Ultimately, Martinez is 'the' man at middleweight so either he beats the man who beat the man or just goes through every contender/champion. We'll have to see how 160 plays out in the coming years, he won't get full credit if he doesn't beat Martinez though.
