I like it. It shows he has a mean streak and only means business and is there to fight. Not **** around like its sparring, not be friends, not wait for someone to adjust their trunks, hug him a couple more times, get ready to defend....it's a fight. When you fight, you damn well fight and concentrate.
A look back On Mayweather Vs Ortiz, the headbutt!!

Floyd has a history of it as well, he's always been opportunist but in this case he was rightfully looking to retaliate which is why his initial reaction after getting headbutted, when Cortez said "Lets go" was to look at the clock, see how much time he had left to go through with his plot. Crazy how it all worked out for him, but I think he was expecting Ortiz to get up.Comment

Exactly. When I'm in there sparring I'm not trying to make friends or thinking about hugging some fool, I'm there to box. I hate that the fight ended that way but I'm not mad at Floyd for what he did. I also think Ortiz was trying to milk the situation, Berto put him down with what looked like a much harder shot he didn't see coming and Ortiz jumped right back upComment

Pathetic from Mayweather. One of those nights I felt ashamed to be a boxing fan. Everyone was sh-tting on us. How are you gonna end a ****ing fight in that way? That sh-t ain't boxing, don't give me that nonsense that its part of the dark arts of the sport. Ortiz was an idiot but Mayweather was a scumbag. People pay extra for a spectacle, not to see someone cheap shot their way out of there. No wonder the sport is basically a fringe sport, when our biggest representative is Mayweather.

well the ref did say "stop punching" but floyd punched him anyway, and the ref pretended like he didn't say anything. When Mosley tried to wrestle Floyd basically and than apologize while the fight was on, Floyd two pieced him.
When Gatti looked to the ref while the fight was on, Floyd knocked him down.
Ortiz got what was coming, my only beef was we didn't see the last 8 rounds of Floyd taxing that ass.Comment

For all those people who think the knockout was a cheap shot, I want to know how many times they expected Mayweather to let Ortiz hug him before they began fighting again.Comment

I was happy that Mayweather clocked him and I'm happy that he did it now. People like to flip flop on what boxing is about, when it comes down to two individuals beating the prime out of one another in a mindless slugfest it is 'an over forgiving sport'. When a fighter drops the gauntlet to have a dirty fight and gets clocked for not keeping his guard up it is supposed to be a gentleman's sport? Get the fuck out of here with that noise. [Not directed at the thread starter].
Name of the sport of boxing, the way of winning the sport is to hit and not get hit. You are told to protect yourself at all times, you are not told to hug and kiss your opponent when there is time left in the round.
At the end of the day Mayweather followed the rules that day. Ortiz didn't when he decided to headbutt Mayweather, he also abandoned all sense when he let his guard down.
I'm also of the belief that Ortiz could have gotten up but he was looking for a way out, as a result I don't think we were in for an exciting fight as he would have quit inside of the next 3 rounds.Comment

Ortiz deserved it though for the head butt and Mayweather paid him back. Mayweather gave him a couple of shots he wasn't ready for but im sure he didn't know Ortiz would go down and not get back up. Ortiz ruined that fight not Mayweather, if you are going to fight dirty you better be ready when it comes back on you and take it like a man.Pathetic from Mayweather. My issue is with both of them, but more towards Ortiz. If you are going to make it dirty, then make it dirty to the fullest extent of which the ref allows and keep it pushing. You headbutted, don't hug and kiss. Acknowledge it and keep fighting.
Dirty tactics is sometimes for the receiving party is the cost of doing business. You are beating someone to the punch, you have to anticipate something dirty perhaps. When Judah was beating Cotto to the punch, he received a nut tap. Was the rolling on the floor excessive, ****, might as well see if you can get a point deducted. But its the cost of doing business. But damn, Ortiz could have just bowed, or nodded his head and keep it going. He deserved to get cheap shotted. Trust me, I hated it initially, since i took my uncle to the theater to watch for his birthday; but c'mon man, you grown, ask for a quick mea culpa, take your deduction and fight on.Comment
