Comments Thread For: Arum is Focused on Getting Pacquiao-Marquez Done

Manny Pacquiao may meet an old foe in a new place in September. Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum says he is trying to put together a fifth fight between Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez and shopping it to casinos in Macau and Singapore.

Arum says the bout would probably be at one of the Venetian hotel-casinos in Macau or Singapore.

"What we're waiting for is which one of their hotels they want to do it at," Arum said over the weekend.

Marquez would be the most likely opponent for Pacquiao, although Arum indicated earlier that Timothy Bradley, who won a disputed decision over Pacquiao last year, was another possibility.

Arum must be trying to get some wealthy foreign investors for this fight to give him at least 50 million for the bout, because a HBO PPV from Macau is not going to do good numbers on PPV, foreign bouts on ppv do not do well for some reason. I don't see this fight doing much maybe 300k in buys.

If they held it in Vegas it will do another million plus buys.

If it does a million or even 800k buys being a foreign based ppv I will be impressed.

Arum said in his experience PPV in foreign countries do about 50%. 300k is a ridiculously low estimation.

50 percent? 300k is a realistic estimate, look at the UFC when they do forieng based ppvs the number is small like 150-250k buys, compared to stateside ppv's which average 500-1 million buys.

Pac has serious fan support so it will appeal a large number of people.

I don't see it. Any other fighter who was KO'ed in 5 would have very little appeal, but this is Pac.

For instance, I'm a big Floyd fan, but if he gets put to sleep by the Ghost in five rounds, I don't want to see in the ring ever again.
