He was truly great, at the amateur level.
The amateurs got a lot of network T.V. time (ABC ran a show called "USA vs The World, In Amateur Boxing- it was really great), back in the 80's....& Breland was an actual attraction.
He KO'd almost everybody he fought, which is really incredible for an amateur.
Back when he made that cover, the big story was that he floored the soon-to-be Welter champ, Milt McCrory, in a sparring session.Comment
