Comments Thread For: Alexander Povetkin's Manager Denies Oquendo Fight

Vladimir Hryunov, manager of WBA "regular" heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin(25-0, 17 KOs), has denied published reports that his boxer will be facing Fres Oquendo (35-7, 23 KOs) on May 17th at the Crocus City Hall in Moscow, Russia.

"This is not true. Everybody wants to fight Povetkin," Hryunov told BoxingScene.com.

As we previously reported, Hryunov is promoting an event at the above referenced venue, on May 17th, with WBA cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev (25-1, 19 KOs) defending his title against “champion in recess” Guillermo “El Felino” Jones (38-3-2, 30 KOs). Don King is co-promoting the event with Hryunov. [Click Here To Read More]

Alexander should come out in the media and call out Wladimir, it would serve him and the public well.

If povetkin wants to stay active oquendo would be a low risk opponent he could make another defence against. Oquendo hasn't shown much the last few years so it would be just another payday for povetkin. Will povetkin wait for his shot at wlad or take another fight?

This is well-known. This 'regular' wba title is such a joke. Why the hell isn't Povetkin staying active. He's just sitting around with his ****** paper title.

I really don't rate Povetkin at all. He's 6'2, kind of sluppy, doesn't have any real power and is not particularly quick or skillful. Wladimir will make an easy nights work out of him. Perhaps even easier than against Wach/Thompson.

I'd give Oquendo a shot at him, I still think he has something left in the tank. Chances are the minute Povetkin steps up to an actual challenger (Fury, Pulev, Haye, Helenius etc) he will get found out and stopped.

He performed well against Chagaev, but he hadn't really fought anyone since being smashed by Wlad in '09.

Povetkin should make the fight with Haye. It would be entertaining and profitable for both. Unfortunately he'd lose his trinket title, but that's life.

This would be the toughest fight in the world to make with both of them avoiding each other.

That's why the heavyweight division today is seen as good as ever!
