Comments Thread For: Photos: Stieglitz Badly Damages Abraham's Eye For TKO

GETEC Arena, Magdeburg, Germany - Robert Stieglitz (44-3, 27 KOs) got revenge with a TKO victory over Arthur Abraham (36-4, 28 KOs) to recapture the WBO super middleweight championship. Stieglitz came out fast and furious, throwing punches with both hands at Abraham, who did his best to cover up and respond with counters. By the end of the second round, Abraham's left eye was very swollen and starting to close. As the third round closed, so did Abraham's eye and was unable to see. The fight was stopped as the bell sounded to start the fourth, which made it a TKO in four.

Boxing is just a sport after all, so it's right that a fighter shouldn't be allowed to continue with an injury like that, but I well remember Carmen Basilio suffering worse to his left eye in round 6 against the immortal Robinson and going the full fifteen before dropping his title on a split decision.

Not sure Arthur wanted much more. Seemed resigned and overwhelmed.

Artur was not overwhelmed at all. Stieglits has landed only a few straight shots but Artur's eye seemed like it was rocked by a truck...Stieglitz's forehead did the most damage. I'm just upset AA let him throw combinations in the opening rounds...that was a huge mistake

He was definitely overwhelmed. He didn't expect Stiegllitz to be that aggressive. abraham doesn't much in the opening rounds so how can you be upset that AA let him throw combinations? AA won't be able to dictate whether Stiegllitz will let his hands go or not. Stiegllitz had a very good game plan and made AA look very uncomfortable. Stiegllitz even hurt badly at the end of the second round. A well deserved win

Did Steiglitz poke him in the eye, how did his eye close up so quick?

That thing closed faster than Berto's eye.

Was it a punch or a headbutt?

Even with the replay I couldn't really tell.

A punch landed as did a headbutt but I couldn't tell what did the damage.

It looked pretty bad but I don't think AA has the winner's spirit anymore.
