Regardless of the reasoning, boxing fans lose again....

I agree but we need to wait and see WHY this happened. It's not always the fault of the people some might think.

Top Rank better hope their young talent pans out.
This ain't just bring Tyson over for Golden Boy; they are working with the biggest draw and grooming two under him this is a whole different situation. What HBO hopes for is they are the big fish and nobody switches over as far subscribers.

A lot of people are making this out to be bad for HBO which it is in a sense, but I think its more damaging to Golden Boy. HBO can work with top rank and all the other promoters. Golden Boy now only has 1 network to work with, what kind of leverage do they have when bargaining with showtime now? If showtime doesnt want the fight its not happening, and they can buy it pretty much for w/e the **** they want now, no bidding war. Additionally correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't HBO have the higher viewership numbers for boxing, it seems like now Golden Boy is reaching a smaller audience unless they get an influx of subscribers.

Either way it's bad news for boxing, sad that this highschool **** is holding back the sport.

Gpb was prolly planning on moving broner to showtime. I don't blame hbo for not trying to bend over backwards for de la Hoya and Schaffer. Showtime and Gbp just made floyd the most powerful man in the sport. What ever he says goes to them. But regardless of how much people on here love them so floyd,Gbp and how great showtime now is. PAC vs Marquez rios vs Alvarado and Martinez vs Chavez the best fights of last year were all hbo and top rank. So far this year Bradley vs ruslan and showtime has shown us garbage like the April fight and Lucas fight. So who really shows the better fights.

So now other companies can't work with Showtime now I guess I didn't read that part. Dibella only has Sergio Martinez and who are the guys he wants to fight Canelo, Cotto and Floyd I'm willing to bet he would fight on Showtime since he said he's not fighting GGG since the money don't make sense. Dan Goosen has Andre Ward who has cleaned out all his comp and most of them fight on Showtime as it is now.

Yea but Top Rank was already doing the same thing by not working with Showtime of their own accord.

HBO could have played the situation to play them off each other, sure GBP could go to Showtime but they could have used that to get better deals out of Top Rank and others. Now they are limiting their product.

HBO is bigger than Showtime but CBS/Showtime is just as big as HBO/Time Warner, plus CBS has a sport network in dire need of extra sports programming so GBP could get some of their guys on there also which is basic cable thus gets more eyes than HBO.

It is a cutting off your nose to spite your face scenario, sure it might hurt GBP but how does this benefit HBO's boxing brand.

The only winner in the deal was Floyd! Coz he got the big deal! That means Floyd contacts eats the majority of the budget! Other fighters will feast on leftovers. Coz SHO cant afford quality opponents! Then Floyd will get no names next! If Canelo lose to trout, there's no more marketable opponents for Floyd! THen Floyd
PPV will tanked! SHO will be lucky to get 1M PPV with guerrero!
