Comments Thread For: Chavez's June Return: Vera, Macklin, Lorenzo in Play

According to Top Rank V.P. of Boxing Operations Carl Moretti, three opponents are being discussed for Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.'s June return in Texas: Brian Vera, Matthew Macklin and Giovanni Lorenzo.

Chavez Jr., is currently serving a nine-month suspension for a positive marijuana test after his fight with Sergio Martinez. The suspension is retroactive to the Sept. 15 middleweight championship bout with Martinez, making him eligible for return on June 15.

Lorenzo (32-5, 24 KOs) is 3-3 in his last six fights, but has faced some notable competition in his pro career. The 32-year-old Dominican has suffered defeats to Raul Marquez, Sebastian Sylvester, Felix Sturm and most recently, Hassan N'Dam. [Click Here To Read More]

Only way I see Macklin is if DiBella forces it or else won't allow Sergio in Sep to face Chavez. Bad matchup for Chavez and I don't see him winning that one.

Why is it that when they mention 3 fighters, 2 are good and the other sucks?

Vera is not much better than Lorenzo, if at all. He'd probably come out with a similar record vs Lorenzo opponents.

They're not crazy, Chavez should beat Macklin no problem. Macklin isn't slick, isn't a mover, always fades late. Chavez should be able to impose his superior size/chin late if Mack makes it that far.

lol why don't he fight a GGG or something. I find that fight interesting as I don't Particularly like either and want to see who would win. It would be a good fight with a lot of heavy shots being thrown
