How controversial was Calazaghe's split decision win over Hopkins?

Plenty of people have made Hopkins "uncomfortable" over the years if that's what you want to call it. Bernard had been plagued by overselectiveness and excessive waiting on many ocassions prior to the Calzaghe fight. Hopkins, if you know anything about his career overall was pulling a "Hopkins" that night. He was flopping and all that crap.Comment

I remember at the end of the fight, before the scorecards thinking Hopkins lost the fight. I was rooting for him, and thought he was going to win, but he did not win in my eyes. But that is just how I felt, I did not score the fight and I haven't gone back to score it. I have not "rewatched" that fight, but I should and when I do, I know i'll probably have it really really close for either guy.Comment

Didn't know that BBC Sport scored it for Hopkins. That's very interesting.Comment

If Calzaghe could punch at all there'd be no doubt about it!! Against Bernard you have to out punch him even if your not landing at a high rate you must out work him. The guy does nothing to win except counter walk and counter punch and not let his opponents "get off"! Thats what he does and if this kid Cloud had the juice to really want the fight he could have beaten him. He had the punches to do it too! Bernard might make a good cornerman for motivation. He's a great liar! Ray.Comment

It was a racial fight and it's the reason why bhop lost, when bhop said he wasn't going to be beat by a white boy it was over. No way slappy beat bhop it was competitive but bhop won clearlyComment

lol we already got two race mongerers in here saying Calzaghe won. Says everything about this match. Bernard should have never made it racial. Quote from Roy Jones:
Journalist: "Did you feel that Calzaghe won the fight against Bernard Hopkins?"
Roy Jones Jr: "Well, if you tell people that 'ain't no White boy going to beat me' and there's a White judge(s), and it's that close - of course you lost. (laughter by room full of journalists.. As Jones continues..) I mean, for real right? You want the truth right?" (Jones matter of factly shrugs his shoulders)Comment

judge: Ted Gimza 115-112 | judge: Adalaide Byrd 113-114 | judge: Chuck Giampa 116-111
Ted Gimza and Chuck Giampa are both white males who scored the fight greatly in favor of Calzaghe while Adalaide Byrd, a non white female married to a black male (referee Robert Byrd), scored it 1 point for B-Hop.
Maybe you have a point with the race thing.Comment

So you think those remarks influenced the way the judges scored the fight?
