That is basically the storyline of Hopkins' career. Before the fight, he's underdog "Too old", "Won't win", "Opponent too active", "This is it, Hopkins will get knocked out", "This is the one who's going to do it". After the fight, "Opponent wasn't that good to begin with, he had already lost to...." Yeah, and despite this you [generally speaking] still thought Hopkins was going to lose so shut up.

Outside of Calzaghe [barely] and Dawson, since 2006 Hopkins has been pretty much beat all favorites. Tarver, Wright, Pavlik, Pascal, Cloud. He also lost clearly against Dawson but ended up doing a lot better than expected.

    • Hopkins over Cloud, check.

Peterson over another one dimensional dummy named Matthysse, coming up.

Why Hopkins was a betting underdog against Cloud will forever be a mystery.

        • How many freakin' 0's has Hopkins taken?

And add one more soul that Hopkins aka Shang Tsung has devoured.

Whoever picked Hopkins to lose that fight had to be REALLY ignorant. He's one of my favorite fighters of all time but I'm still gonna keep it real, Cloud did get schooled by Campillo, I can't give B-Hop too much credit for beating a guy that was outboxed in his last fight. Your criticism is misplaced.

That's a funny joke you got there Kev.

              • I wasn't criticizing you, I was generally speaking.

As bad as Cloud is, Hopkins is a 48 year old. He's great, an ATG, but he's 48 years old. The only sports where humans regularly excel at that age is Golf and Pro Wrestling [sport entertainment].

You have to give credit where credit is due. Hopkins is 48 years old, he was the underdog and more people thought he was going to lose than he was going to win. The guy he fought is a terrible boxer, but powerful and has a good chin, is young and pretty active for a LHW, though it was known by some people that Hopkins was going to bring that number down and make fight at his pace.

Any one who had Hopkins losing before this fight, automatically gave up their right to criticize the win unless it was a Hopkins robbery, which it was far from that.

That's the thing. Cloud is a world champion (or even former world champion if b/c of the Campillo fight) in his physical prime. A very physically strong fighter with a notoriously high punch output. And he was favored to win this fight. The betting lines don't lie and the comments from people on this forum don't lie.

And a ****in 48 year old man took his ass to school. It's unheard of. I don't expect Hopkins to beat guys like Ward and Dawson but to be able to compete at this level at this age is nothing short of phenomenal.

He deserves some credit because of his age no doubt, but like I said I can't give him too much credit considering the opponent.

Him being the underdog has more to do with the fact that not many people watched the Campillo fight.
