your comment seemed to suggest that fighters should be excused for coming in heavy and be granted titles regardless of whether or not they make the weight for sanctioned title bouts.
he arguably beat the belt-holder, but he didn't work as hard as his opponent did to make the weight, which devalues his showing somewhat.Last edited by S. Saddler 1310; 03-07-2013, 02:48 PM.

No im not suggesting that, just the fact that a fat, raw, slow 140 fighter beat Paulie, the 147 WBA champ, whether the title was on the line or not.
Yea he was .5 pounds over or whatever, im not saying he should hold the belt but he did beat the 147 champ

"Its ok, you're already the 147 WBA champ"
the particular argument we're engaged in isn't about whether Paulie's title should have been left up for him to lose after Cano missed weight, but rather this notion that Cano deserves championship credit for having arguably beaten Malignaggi after coming in heavy.
i'm not sure how relevant it is that Malignaggi was heavily favoured to win, but i wasn't one of the guys who thought he would get an easy night with Cano's mix of style and attributes. i'd seen Cano give a good account of himself against a far better fighter in Morales (even as far past his prime as he is, his skill-base exceeds Malignaggi's) and was mildly impressed with the kid. more relevant than his being "fat" (Juan Diaz, a fighter with excellent stamina, used to box with a fold of bodyfat spilling over his trunks and was highly effective doing so), young Cano (a 140lb campaigner) hadn't had to expend the same energy to make the limit that his physically matured opponent had. slow? that's a deceptive argument and pure speed isn't the be-all and end-all. using what you have effectively is more important. many quick men do not know how to harness their speed to maximum effect (Judah, for example).Last edited by S. Yea he weighed .5 pounds over, so? Im not making a literal case for him being crowned the WBA champ. Point is he beat Paulie

and i didn't take your words literally at all. rather, i took exception to an implication, ie. that Cano is somehow the rightful holder of the WBA title. even had he knocked Malignaggi out cold, it wouldn't have counted a wit as far as that title was concerned and nor should it have.
in your opinion he beat Paulie. this thread is about him chasing a title shot and his worthiness thereof.
