Simple answer it doesn't. But since he was at one time thrown out there as a name to fight Mayweather, and Pacquiao, beating him does have some meaning. Lets not forget a few years ago he had some praise. Although he also had a lot of detractors.
I think it's more about the fame and fan recognition of upsetting Andre Berto, that got Ortiz and Guerrero the Floyd fight. They could have upset any other favorite WW and got the Floyd fight, it just happened to be Berto. Berto himself is always one fight away from getting Mayweather, so it's only fair that the guy who beat him gets the Floyd fight instead, or else there would be an outrage "Fighter A beat Berto, why won't Floyd fight him?".
Ghost shouldn't get the fight based on that if anything he needed to rematch Berto 1st Ortiz did beat an undefeated Berto in a classic and did earn the fight
Ever since that picture with him (Mayweather) being on Al Haymon's right and Berto on his left, it bears a symbolic meaning to me. So yeah, it has this undertone of revenge, beating Berto, we will send Floyd after you.
This is just a dumb question, yea Ortiz and Guerrero beat Berto and got Mayweather so what? The options at 147 isn't great and Berto is a gatekeeper. It just tiring reading posts that people don't really do any thinking to anymore, it's all about copying and pasting whatever someone else says that they think its funny. Yea beating Berto earns you a shot at Mayweather so maybe Canelo can do that too.....yay I sound funny and original!
