He failed a test in 2009 for banned diuretics. IDK about this 2002 one but if he has one in 2002 then thats atleast his 3rd failed test.

Is 900,000 dollars considered excessive? Percentage wise its only 30% of his reported income for that fight and you would have to argue that 30% is excessive.

Having a boxing license isnt a right. You have to meet the requirements to get the license and maintain it and hes violated the testing requirements several times. This isnt a criminal case, he broke the rules of a state licensing board and broke the rules that he agreed to. Apparently a 30% fine is within their rules, if he dont like it he shouldnt have broken them. If he dont agree with their rules then go fight in mexico. Fighting in the US under nevada's rules isnt a right its a privilege and requires a license.

I agree its a large fine but common its not like its a secret that they are going to test for marijuana in the urine test, he knew it, agreed to it and now has the pay the price when he ignored the rules he agreed to.

Wasn't big enough in my opinion. Biggest fight of his career. Fans making travel plans and filling the Thomas & Mack hoping to see two guys at their peak. Instead they got a Sergio who was out for blood and Jr. who had the munchies.

you do realize that part of the fine is attributed to the fact that this is his second failed test right?

also, they didn't fine him a set amount. they didnt just look at him and say give us 900k. they fined him a percentage of his purse (30%), he just happened to have made a lot of money for that fight so it ended up being 900k. it is consistent with their previous fines where diaz was fined 30% for failing his second drug test due to marijuana as well. except in diaz' case he was fined 30% and banned for a year, not 9 months like chavez. his first fine was 10% (10k) of his 100k purse, but being this is his second offense it went up to 30% which isnt unreasonable. He just happened to make a lot more money for this fight so the fine amount was larger.

dont look at the amount of the fine, look at the percentage because that's what the fine was based on. like if they fined mayweather 1% for marijuana use, everyone would be up in arms about how he got fined 500k for smoking pot when in reality it's just 1%. you can say that the amount is excessive, but it's based on a percentage of the purse, they didnt just randomly choose 900k as an amount for the fine.

It makes up for the fines he didn't have to pay for the drug tests he would have failed in other Texas fights had he actually taken them like he was supposed to.
