Well we seen what he did to Demarco, and according to boxrec he's only 1 inch shorter than Abril. I think Demarco fought the wrong fight that night. He kept going after Broner and he gave up his size. He should've stayed back and let Broner bring the fight to him. I think that's how Abril would handle it and it'll be a long night for Broner.
Lol dude, I read your first sentence and I was ready to blast you! But then you salvaged your post with the rest of your comment.

I think Abril came out of this with a little more respect. It seemed like he might have done good against Rios, because Rios was weight drained, but I don't think that was the case anymore.

Please bruh, it aint got nothing to do with appreciating the sweet science. Abril just makes s**tty fights. It is what it is, he's talented but i'd rather watch the WNBA than watch him fight
Now ask yourself this, who was making the fight ugly last night? Abril was simply trying to protect himself. Did you not see his forehead? Then you got the Rios fight, do I need to post the gif from Dan's thread in here so you can see the way Rios was fighting? Abril is a versatile fighter and he has shown he can adapt. He admitted that he couldnt do his thing cause of Bogere's dirty tactics but still found a way to win.

How many times have you seen Abril fight before the Rios fight? Cause everyone was looking for his footage and all we could find was like 1 fight. Our main source was New England who watched him fight live.

Before the Bogere fight, I thought people around here didn't think much of him. I know Richie's style is ugly, but most of the members here seemed to appreciate what he was doing last night. It probably had something to do, amongst other things, with the grit Abril had on display. Everyone loves that.

Abril is very skilled, and crafty as they come. He's got a solid chin and a will to win. Richie only has borderline respectable power, but he uses it very effectively for his style. He's a very tall lightweight. He's trouble for anyone, especially shorter fighters.

Someone mentioned that Abril's style will always lend itself to bad decisions/robberies. I have to agree. It's Richie's major shortcoming. But he showed last night that it doesn't have to be that way. After his point deduction, Abril got busy and started connecting with some urgency. The guy can fight.
Good post. Reading all those pro-Richie ( I hope you realize I'm making fun of you ) comments plus the right decision made me feel the warm and fuzzies inside.

I think the Rios fight mightve been a little bit more competitive if Rios wasn't drained but the result was gonna be the same, Abril schooling him. Put it this way, Rios wasn't gonna trap Abril like he did Acosta and even if he did he would have that cold shoulder (that's what I like to call it Idk why) on his face which he didn't know what to do with it.

Rios was weight drained, and I have little doubt that affected his performance. That said, Abril would've beaten him that night anyway. I think Richie has Brandon's number. Beyond that, Abril is quite underrated. He's just not impressive to watch. Richar does a lot of subtle stuff most fans can't get into. It doesn't mean he sucks.

Do people understand what they are watching when Abril fights?

He's a 5'10 lightweight with a long reach. What do you want him to do when his opponent closes the distance? How should he be fighting these shorter brawlers, volume punchers and sluggers? Should he be getting into meaningless exchanges and trying to show boxing fans that he has balls? GTFOH.

He either clinches or turns his opponents when they get close. He also defends himself very well with his elbows and shoulders. He does a great job at creating distance so he can follow through on his punches. He's got a sick jab which he doesn't use enough.

He's just a very smart, slick and crafty boxer that knows how to win. He gives anybody serious problems at 135.

They rather watch tall lanky fighters fight like DeMarco, get on the inside and get lit up. I'd say P.Will too but he made it work somehow when he fought giving up his height and reach.

Abril has handled two relentless, awkward, agressive brawlers in a very composed and professional manner. He's obviously a really well schooled fighter. But how he looks against guys like that, and how he's going to do against a a guy like Broner who combines real physical strength with serious accuracy and handspeed as is a different matter entirely. It would be interesting though.
