Comments Thread For: Richard Abril Pushes Past Sharif Bogere, Retains Title

Richard Abril (18-3-1) successfully defended his WBA lightweight title by defeating Sharif Bogere (23-1) via unanimous decision. The scores were 115-111 and 116-110 twice.

It was a rough and tumble fight from the beginning. Both fighter tumbled to the floor in the 1st round and again in the 2nd round as the fight resembled an MMA fight more than a boxing match.

Abril started to time Bogere's bull rushes in the 3rd round. Bogere repeatedly charged in to make up for his height and reach disadvantage and more often than not Abril made him pay with a power shot. Abril enjoyed a big 4th round as most of Bogere's punches failed to connect. [Click Here To Read More]

Yup, I agree. it was a horrendous fight. I also agree with Al, ref should've taken a point from Bogere first for leading with his head. Abril was preventing being headbutted so he was holding his head down a bit. I couldn't believe he took the points away when he did both times.

Either way, the right man won so I'm glad.

2 words come to mind when thinking Abril vs Broner.. NO THANKS!

Vasquez, Burns or he should move up. Abril holds too much.

Sho commentary was great right up until the end when they started insinuating that Abril could pose problems for Broner

Paulie seemed to be clamoring for the shown down the most which was hilarious to watch. I'd rather Broner vs Paulie @ 147 over Abril vs Broner. Broner would walk right through Abril, he's not Bogere..

Men this guy Bogere was dirty. He was using his head as a weapon. Congratulations to Abril, that point deduction was out of place.

It's confirmed, Richard Abril is the P4P most boring active fighter. Could you imagine him vs Vasquez? Worst fight of all time pretty much

Glad to see two straight nights of good judging.

Abril showed a lot of heart and grit in this fight.

Abril deserved the unanimous win. Ugly fight, but I was just glad to get some Saturday night boxing. Bogere was boss sporting the lion on his noggin though.

It was a good fight, ugly or not.

Bogere pressing the action made it entertaining to watch. I was backing him until I saw Broner supporting him.

Anyway, respect to both fighters, tough night's work.
