Let me put it to you this way, during the last few years we've been told that Canelo will be "the next big thing" you can look over the fence and see the UFC creating stars on an almost monthly basis. They've had Jon Jone sell 700k buys, JDS and Cain sell 600k, Anderson Silva sell 900k, Nick Diaz 500k, Overeem 500k buys, Faber 400k buys, and last but not lease, within the space of a month they UFC built up A WOMAN to headline a PPV and that made 450k buys.

WTF is Canelo fit to headline at this stage? We've been watching him for about three years now and his promoters haven't done **** about raising his stock value. The moment his stock did increase after he beat Mosley he immediately jumps to Showtime where less people watch him than they did on HBO. Canelo has the potential to be a star if he just got his name out there but right now he's stuck in limbo.
He headlined a 4 bout card vs blown up JWW Lopez on the 2nd most premium date of the year.

I can't believe you're complaining Canelo of all people is underpromoted. The guy is a posterboy for undue hype and easy money. Maybe he's got it, we'll see soon.

After the Trout fight, he would be headlining a PPV against Floyd but Floyd is afraid to commit.

He didn't pull out of the bout, it's just not going to be on the Mayweather PPV. It is on Showtime now.

people don't get credit until they actually do something. Till he fights or beats Trout he shouldn't be credited with it.

On a side note, all this stalling in building him and saying stuff like "yeah well hes only 23" is a pretty bad way of doing it. A good promoter would have him headlining PPVs or starring on CBS to at least make the most of him while he looks strong. You never know when someone can come along to derail the hype train. If Canelo doesn't turn out to be all he's cracked up to be then all this slow promotion they've given him will be for nothing.

Just take Price as a perfect example. Wouldn't it have been so much better if Price and Fury simply fought each other? Perhaps Fury would have KO'd Price instead and we would have gotten a big fight out of it. Now look, because of all this stalling the fight went down the drain. I mean, what the hell is going to happen to Canelo in the very likely circumstance that Trout beats him? He'll be dropped in the same boat as Chavez Jr right now, and maybe even Price. Cotto's brother rocked Canelo badly back in 2010. There were signs present with Price but people chose to ignore them and I feel people are doing the same for Canelo.

If Floyd is put under contract to fight six times then by right he should have to do it or potentially face jail or more likely a massive fine, so it increases the odds of Mayweather fighting more.

Great move by Canelo. Wont have a reason to pay $70 to Mayweather anymore. As far as the PPV slot for getting needed exposure, hes already been on Mayweather's last three. What more do you need? I understand he may not be huge right now or at a Pacquiao or Mayweather level but it seems like some people live in a bubble when failing to realize this guys current popularity and future potential.

Because he is bought into the HYPE that GBP been pumping him up with, he thinks he is a bigger star then he really is and he thinks that he is as big of a Draw as Mayweather to the point in which he can demand things from Mayweather and get it

Your fighting on Showtime Network over being the Co-Mainevent for a Big PPV Card...THAT IS NOT A WIN! Now if he vs Trout a PPV Event then I would understand the move but I don't see how this is a "GREAT MOVE"

Being big in Mexico and being big in the US is NOT THE SAME! I think people have Canelo's stardom confused and they think that he is already big in the US but that is not the case at all, fighting on Mayweather Card was to expose him to US Fans it wasn't for Canelo to "HELP MAYWEATHER SALE PPV'S" because that is really not the case, Mayweather was doing over 1 Million in PPV Buys before Canelo starting fight on his Card

I have doubts Canelo gets past Trout anyway

Yes and he got 1 million viewers (peak) on Showtime. That's very good for showtime, hell that's brilliant for showtime, but it's down from the 1.6 to 1.8 million viewers he was getting on the larger HBO. Boxing needs a huge superstar to fill the void as Manny and May are leaving and as I said, while Canelo is the man for the job he's stuck in a promotion limbo right now. He should be widening his reach to attract the kind of crossover audience Floyd and Manny have, not shrinking his reach by dropping the huge stage of a PPV for a channel that will get him less viewers.

This move doesnt mean much in the grand scheme of things. It doesnt mean that Canelos not going to fight Floyd in Sept. He's still the lead canidate for that slot. Nothings happen that compromises that yet. Unless somebody really seperates themselves in one of these fights coming up such as Lopez/Maidana, Brook/Alexander, Matthysse/Peterson etc. etc... The Sept date is still Canelos to loose.
