I assure you the gate and attendance for Canelo-Trout will be higher than UFC 157.

When did Canelo become that big of a star in the US? I must have missed that memo~

Canelo is doing alright though for boxing but he is far from transcending boxing which is what all the big stars do.

As for him not fighting on Mayweather's card that is whatever because he already got the benefit of the association, which in turn promoted both events. Now there is the appearance of bad blood ad people are already trying to say Floyd is scared of Canelo which only augers well for Canelo as long as he can keep his momentum in the ring going.

In short I think he is being promoted just fine and is on his way to being at least a decent a-side attraction.

how would he know if hes a successful draw? simply headline your own ppv. if that fails, he can just go back as an undercard or a co-main event.

if anything, its a step forward for canelo.

He needs big platforms to fight on to get his name out there and short of fighting on CBS/NBC there is no bigger platform than Mayweather's card. Canelo simply isn't at the stage where he should be walking around acting like a super star. He needs to be getting more exposure first before locking himself down on a small channel like Showtime.

He went from averaging 1.6 million viewers on HBO, to being watched by tens of millions of the May undercards, and when he gets a little big headed he ditches this and goes walking over to a small channel like Showtime where his viewers drop to 1 million - AND THAT'S A RECORD FOR SHOWTIME. This kid is allowing his exposure to drop like a rock when he should be getting bigger.
He is smarter than you think he is. He is headlining another card on Showtime and CBS has way more reach than HBO does. Floyd didn't want to sign to fight him and if he KO's Trout, Floyd is going to have to bend to make the fight in September. Canelo can draw 50-60K in Mexico which is where his handlers should stage his first PPV.

Floyd sees that he doesn't have the pull that he used to and Canelo did to Floyd what Floyd usually does to others, "my way or the highway". You think Canelo is going to make more fighting on the under card of Floyd's PPV than headlining his own card?

Canelo is not in desperate need of exposure. He is 22. If you want an example of someone in desperate need of exposure, think of a 34-year-old Martinez prior to the Williams fight. Canelo is still 4 or so years away from entering his prime. He has all the time in the world.

exactly, boxing promoters such at promoting. Canelo is different from the rest. He's the one people want to become the next big thing in boxing yet even he can't break 2 million viewers or headline a big PPV.
