I've already admitted that neither Floyd or Arum cared if that fight happened or not. That situation was about egos and nothing else. What did 50 say in another interview "Floyd's biggest pet peeve is that his opponents make career paydays off of his name." There is a reason why he hasn't fought a Top Rank fighter since he left the company.
And if I recall, 50 cent said something along the lines of "Floyd wants the perfect fight, not the toughest fight". Which is exactly my point.
He picks opponents that can be marketed to sell PPVs and put money into his pockets. They have some combination of having a big name, a big fanbase, are coming off big wins or are fighters that can attract Mexican fans on national holidays.
So if you have a choice between Paul Williams vs. Ricky Hatton, you know which one he is picking. The one with the "whole country behind him".
Do I approve of this? No. I would have loved to see him fight Margarito, Williams or Cotto in his prime. But it is what it is. That's how he chooses to manage his career and make business decisions.
