"He's the best counterpuncher I've ever seen," Roach said of Rigondeaux, speaking by phone from his gym in Los Angeles. "When I did the pads with him, I simply could not get through his defense. I tried. I couldn't, though.

"On his first day in the gym, he wanted to spar with Manny Pacquiao," Roach laughed. "I didn't allow it. I don't want Manny getting that kind of work in sparring. Manny is a bit big for him, but he's an offensive guy and with countering like that, he was more work than I needed.

"He's one of the greatest talents I've ever seen," Roach said of Rigo.

Then the trainer pauses, considering his words.

    "Probably the greatest talent."

    Roach knows whats up.

That remains to be seen. It's premature at this point to conclude that Rigo will not be tagged. Yes Rigo maybe the more skilled boxer but that doesn't take away the FACT that Donaire is also a skilled boxer in his own right. He has more tricks up his sleeve than just the left hook, just ask Nishioka. Talking of left hooks, if you know boxing you'll actually see how he sets them up methodically and not just throw them and pray Hail Mary. Donaire is one of the more smarter boxer in the ring. He reads, adjust and sets his opponents up. With that said I'm just excited the fight got made. They are arguably the best in their division. It doesn't get any closer than this.

Not that I really respect amateur records in boxing , but his is really overrated. He was a pro at being an amateur. 450+ fights in the amateur rankings , you have become a master at it. And is a completely different game. If you are hurt , they stop the fight and count and then they let you continue. And its a system designed to score points on clean shots , and we have all know that system is flawed. Not 100% accurate. Not even 80% accurate. Its pretty ****ty.

It 100% benefits the pure boxer "slick" style , and we all know style make fights. You can't sacrifice anything. Its 3 rounds , and is just a completely different game.

Anyone who says Rigondeaux was not a pro at being an amateur is completely full of it. And I wonder how many real amateur fighters had even half of his experience when they faced him. Its not even fair to begin with. Mayweather could fight light heavyweights in the amateur rankings and win a few gold medals.

There's a lot of truth to what you're saying. Still, the proof is in the putting. Rigo has done pretty damn well with only eleven pro fights, and he's pretty well respected amongst the experts. If Guillermo beats Donaire, perhaps even if he just gives a very good account of himself, he'll certify the legitimacy of all those amateur wins and two gold medals.

Unfortunately Roach will not take that left hook from Donaire!! It takes only one of those Bomb!! KO of the Year!! Thanks for Rigo's chin! His chin makes it spectacular!

I'm not saying Rigo's terrible but his chin does appear to be weak.

He has more amateur experience, Donaire has more professional experience. Last I checked they're going to fight in a professional boxing match.

Oh and it's one thing to know what to expect, it's another to be able to do something about it.

Agreed, up until the 80s amateur boxing was like pro boxing with big gloves and tank tops. Nowadays with the shorter rounds and the computerized scoring system it's almost a different sport.

The only reason Donaire gets hate is because he runs through everybody but doesn't have a well toned body (he doesn't do PEDs). Rigo has nice abs and is pretty cut but i wonder if people would like him if he had the body of Donaire. Everybody that's on the Rigo train is a (closet) ****.

Audley Harrison was also a gold medalist.

I think most people would have to agree that fundamentally Rigo is on another level to Donaire. We can all probably agree that so far Rigos chin is not as well tested in the pro ranks and like Amir Khan, there are some glaring concerns whe it gets touched, yes he might get through like Khan did, but only a fool would deny it still has big question marks hanging over it.

The fight is made. We should all shut up about our theories (me included), this is the time to put and shut up. Get to the betting section or the bookies and let your points and money do the talking as these guys have signed to let their fists do the talking, all of us flapping our gums are just wasting time
