arum didn't like it one bit people fail to understand the bitterness these two have for each other. ANd it falls on FMW as a fight dodger cause arum has been the one talking all whilst knowing to himself that he isnt gonna put Fmw in the ring with one of his own fighters

the cotto fight didnt happen for that reason although when FMW was at top rank arum wasn't interested in that fight then either.

if cotto was with with TR he would not have been able to fight trout and trout been chasing this fight for a while..

so in essence manny is not smart enough to think for himself he already been conned.

how do you fire your previous advisor at the lip service of arum who says you dont need one so you can make more money only to have you hire michael koncz does that make sense?

overall theres no way manny could have taken that deal while under contract and freddie roach didnt help him one bit..

Well it's not just 40mill, if May would have beaten Pac in a good fight then there would be a second and maybe third fight that would have generated more then 40mill all together due to Pac wanting a rematch.

If Pac would have taken it and beaten Floyd then he would have the upper hand on things and could demand more money the next fight.

I do believe it could have generated more than 100mill each over the course of 2-3 fights. That could have definitely bought Pac the Presidency over in the Philippines..... and gotten May out of financial problems

Each fighter is to blame here, I do believe greed or pride over money made this happen instead of glory or love for boxing. If they had some Ali in them this would have happened years ago...

What you "generate" is not what you end up with. The combined total of all taxes would have been around 38% then. Today they would be 41.9%. And Top Rank would HAVE to be involved (which Mayweather of course knew) for their 27%.

And....lest we forget..... PPV cable/communications etc take between 50-55% of the PPV. S

Then what has to be considered is that Mayweather fights are usually rather less than riveting, so, unless the first fight was good, the other one(or two) would not be as valuable.

Of course Arum's earnings are not public knowledge, same as GBP, Sauerland, DiBella or any other promoter. You just gotta use a smidge of common sense to see that 40m probably understates Pac + TR's share for JMM 4, say. The fight made 70m in ppv sales, of which TR gets at least half. Add in the gate, international and advertising rights, subtract all purses but Pac's, and there's your 40m easy.

I just don't understand how he could see the deal with Floyd as him being cheated but the deal he has with Top rank as being fair? especially now if its extremely expensive for him to get out of it.

When did manny call floyds bluff once? If anything Floyd called mannys bluff:

1. Manny said he would accept less money, floyd personally called him to to deal.

2. Manny was ready to fight JMM in may 2012, when floyd said fight me, manny said he needs another month to heal his cut.

So Floyd should make less so arum can earn more? Yeah right. Anyone with a brain can see what Floyd has been trying to make clear to manny. Leave top rank and u got 40 mil waiting for u. Floyd can't do anything about what manny has to do with his money after he gets it. So if manny was in debt with some bill collector for millions, would it be Floyd's responsibility to pay him more so he can pay his bills? Really think about this.

I guess what I want to hear are the Financial reasons why turning down that offer was a good move on Manny's part. All I have heard to this point are pride/principle reasons and I totally understand those. But strictly from a financial perspective (since at the end of the day Boxing is still a business) given what path each has taken since then, I would like to hear Who really thinks Manny is in a better place career wise now then he would be if he accepted the 40 mil and the fight actually happened. Even in the worst case is getting dominated by floyd for 40 mil worse than a close decision win or getting knocked out by Maruez for a much smaller purse? And again if he won the sky would have been the limit.

How transparent all you guys are, even those like yourself who are trying to inject a little rationality into the discussion. The other guys are just blasting away and not listening to each other.

This conversation would not be happening if Pacquiao had not had the sheer bad luck to walk into a lucky punch in a fight he was beginning to dominate. It can even be shown that he tripped over Marquez' foot and fell face first into the punch, making it far more concussive.

Simple arithmetic shows that Pacquiao would retain about $24 mill (from $40 mill) after all taxes, (taxes about 38% then, today 41.9%) from which he'd pay his manager and trainer and other expenses. This is with NO Top Rank. If Top Rank were involved it would be about $5-6 mill less. Pacquiao would not ruin his relationship with Top Rank without whom he'd never have been where he is today. According to all reports he makes a minimum of $25 mill for each fight with them.

Then ne has to take into account that when (and if) Mayweather had done his own artihmetic, he might realise that with HIS taxes, promoter, PPV (50-55%) and incidental expenses he wouldn't make all that much either...considering the RISK to his health involved.....

The offer was a low-ball. Everyone knows it, they knew it at the time.

Floyd said they didn't even get to talk revenue. Plus people forget this point, MANNY SAID HE WOULD TAKE LESS MONEY!!!!! Floyd called him an offered him less money. Then they switched back to 50/50 or no fight. If Floyd won't do 50/50 and thats all pacman wanted, when do u get to talk revenue? They couldn't even get past the split.

That's a pretty unusual demand to make a fight, leave your promoter. Can be highly questionable, legally. But apparently Pac showed willingness not to reup, too bad that that floyd/50 joint venture fell apart right after.

But I get your gist. That's why they needed to agree on a reasonable split, like 52/48 or 56/44, none of this fixed offer crap. That way everyone gets their a good bump on their career best.
