Comments Thread For: Mayweather Focused on Guerrero, Open To Canelo Bout

BoxingScene.com recently spoke to undefeated pound for pound king Floyd "Money" Mayweather (43-0, 26KOs) who is in Detroit to promote Saturday's Showtime televised showdown between IBF junior middleweight champion Cornelius "K9" Bundrage and his fighter Ishe Smith.

The Grand Rapids, MI native recently announced his May 4th fight against Robert Guerrero (31-1, 18KOs) that will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. A unification fight between WBC super welterweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and WBA champion Austin "No Doubt" Trout is currently being negotiated to serve as the co-featured fight in what will likely be one of the highest grossing pay-per-view events in history. Showtime Pay-Per-View will carry the card. [Click Here To Read More]

He mentioned Trout as a possibility if he beats Canelo. That would be weird because Trout is a Haymon fighter.

Open to a Canelo bout? This is the same guy who said he was open to Martinez last year, and Cotto when he was undefeated. Mayweather don't fight real threats to his throne, come on everyone knows that by now.

Glad to see he is acknowledging the cardio factor. Noticed he didn't say too much about Alvarez there, either.

I thought he was saying that a match with himself and Trout would be a good match at first but when I re-read it, he said the Canelo-Trout match should be a good one.

He was open to fighting Cotto when he was undefeated but at the time Arum didn't want him to fight Mayweather. The same goes with Oscar and Shane. He called these guys out when he was up and coming but he was to much of a risk.

Big difference there. Canelo is a GBP fighter, for the past 6 years Mayweather has been fighting every single big named fighter GBP had, starting with De La Hoya. I'm not sure if Hatton was a GBP fighter at the time Floyd fought him. But after DLH it has been a steady stream of GBP's big named fighters coming off big wins, Marquez, Mosley, Ortiz, Guerrero, next in line GBP has Canelo, Lara, Kirkland, Matthysse, Garcia, Alexander, Peterson, Khan, Maidana, Angulo, Molina,Thurman, Malignaggi those are the GBP fighters from 140-154. Who you think would help Floyd generate the most money possible from that list? Canelo and Khan, and Khan needs a huge win, or two good wins in order to be considered as an opponent for Floyd.

No he said, if a canelo bout versus himself presents itself, or a trout fight presents itself, then he will make it happen, but he's focused on Trout! Canelo is big and strong, but I dont know why people act like Floyd would duck him! Its been WIDELY publicized that Floyd will fight him in september, and was going to fight him last year until we all bomboarded gbp email with letters about how he didnt deserve the fight until he proved himself.

If Canelo and Trout fight to a close split decision kind of fight I would like to see Floyd fight both. My preference for his last 6 would be:

                  Guerrero
                  Canelo
                  Trout or Lara

And the last few standing out of these guys

                  Alexander, Brook or Bradley

                  Garcia, Khan, Matthysse or Peterson

                    No...

If the Canelo fight [versus](seems like a typo) presents itself or the Trout fight presents itself then we will make it happen
What he said is pretty clear. He calls Canelo-Trout a good match in the sentence before this one, then individually points out both fighters as match ups he'd make.
