I was thinking the same thing, very rarely do people contradict themselves in the same article. Sounds like he may work the "Trout vs. Canelo" is too big for an undercard angle. Even though after the Cotto fight It was "Trout still has more to prove, trout isn't known enough". Now Canelo vs. Trout is pay per view worthy all of a sudden? Schaefer is flip flopping

I think he wanted to say that Jessie Vargas was a prospect who didn't make any progress at all. He didn't get out of prospect status...

HBO will be laughing at their faces when FLOYD retires because Showtime is forcing him to fight someone who has a chance to beat him

HBO: floyd! now is the time to fight pacquiao, he just lost and you now have all the leverage, isn't it great?

FLOYD: I'll go to showtime baby!

            typical floyd lol

Floyd is doing what he does best = getting paid. He's not a GBP fighter. He gives them the piece of the steak he doesn't want to eat. GBP has no fighters in the top 10 P4P and once his contract is done Broner will be opening Problem Promotions and giving Richard his gristle just like Floyd. Lucas is great but unfortunately won't attract the mainstream. At least Richard's honest about not wanting to make Canelo-Trout. He's seen too many big fights slip away and won't risk that happening with Floyd & Canelo. Imagine where GBP would be if Floyd wasn't hellbent on sticking to Arum and without Espinoza at Showtime. Ken Hershman is doing the smart thing and avoiding those b.s. multi-fight deals HBO use to do that resulted in crap fights. They'd happily sign Broner to a multi-fight deal but not with all the other strings Slick Rick is going to attach. It's funny to see so many people buy into his schtick like he's doing good things for boxing. Until Bob dies Schaefer will be an also-ran and this deal doesn't change that.

What I got from the Canelo-Trout part is that schaefer realizes this card is very expensive to make. You gotta pay Canelo and Trout main event money, and that's not cheap. He's basically acknowledges that this fight is no co-main event, it's actually a better match and a more interesting match up than Mayweather-Guerrero.

For all of the fighters in this card to be happy with their checks, including Broner if he's going to be in it, the PPV would have to cost like $80-100.

I agree with Schaefer, Canelo-Trout generates at least $10-15million in PPV revenue on it's own. Think about it, 200k PPV's sold is $12,000,000. The fight at least does that, and the way Chavez Jr-Martinez sold 400-500k, I think Canelo-Trout can do something similar although Chavez Jr had a more popular dance partner. I think Canelo-Trout can do 300-350k with a decent undercard that would be super successful because it would be both of their first main events.

But if GBP/Haymon/Mayweather Promotions can actually pull this card off, then go for it, it would be the best card in years.
