  • Comments Thread For: Schaefer on Mayweather/SHO, Broner's Future, HBO, More

Golden Boy Promotions CEO, Richard Schaefer, sat down with BoxingScene.com to discuss one of the biggest news stories in the last few years - Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s decision to leave HBO and sign a very lucrative multi-fight agreement with Showtime/CBS. Schaefer's company works very closely with Mayweather and co-promoted his last six fights. And Golden Boy will co-promote his Showtime debut, on pay-per-view, when Mayweather defends his WBC welterweight title against Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero on May 4th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Schaefer also gives his thoughts on the future of Golden Boy's relationship with HBO, Adrien Broner's potential role as an HBO superstar and whether or not the Saul "Canelo" Alvarez vs. Austin Trout will be finalized as the pay-per-view co-feature to Mayweather-Guerrero. Mac...PC
    Coke...Pepsi
    Labatt...Budwieser
    Freddy Mercury...David Bowie

In the end it doesn't matter, if you're going to watch you gunna watch no matter what network or you're going to watch it on a stream site.

So the Canelo-Trout deal isn't confirmed?

Sounds like Golden Boy doesn't really want that fight.

          oh oh

HBO crew shot themselves on the foot with the cheer leading they do for Pacquiao. I wish JMM was still with Golden Boy, he too could have gone to Showtime and said fuck them HBO cheer leading hoes!

The JMM-Pac 4 commentating was beyond pathetic.

The downside to this is GB is pushing for multi fight contracts with the networks, which is what was really hurting our (think roy jones on hbo basically getting to fight anyone he wanted). The networks over time started getting away from this and force fighters to fight eachother, it was often a fight by fight contract.

Lol at Schaefer first he says he is not afraid to put his young talent against each other but he doesnt want to make Trout vs Canelo lol dude is a straight punk, his also protecting Garcia from Matthysse, tryna force Matthysse another route, Matthysse n Canelo should both jump this fool

Good read,GBP is leading the way till the point they have the networks fighting for them. There surrounded by genius investors I can see them in control of allot of things in a couple of years.
