Trout's a B plus fighter at the very minimum, and maybe, just maybe an A fighter. We will know for sure May 4. If Canelo stops him or wins via decision decisively, I would certainly say the hype is legit.
If he does win, he's the number 2 JMW in the world after Mayweather and the matchup in September is that much bigger and better. He should get props for taking on Trout when he could have taken on a much easier opponent and still have gotten the Floyd fight. Winning will not be easy though...
It's one thing for Cotto, a well established star, to give Trout a shot instead of going for the biggest $$$ fight possible. On the other hand, Canelo should be expected to fight Trout with no questions asked. I'm not sure that Mayweather would fight him with his current resume.
