Its holds its own easily. Considering how pro sport America is and how poorly funded UK sport is i'm shocked at the stats!

The population ratio is 5:1 in favour of America.

In an independant world ratings the ratio between UK and America top 10 fighters is 2:1 in favour of America.

I know independant world ranking(US site) are someones opinion but it goes to show UK fighter hold there own.

5 times as many people and only 2 times as many top 10 fighters. How can anyone say US have better fighters!?!?

Notice i never said "US" i said north america, when i said that, i included mexico/puerto rico.

The fact is, north america has put out more memorable champions and more memorable fighters than the UK has, or ever will.
Not to mention, unlike the UK, we dont simply play 1 sport on the mainstream (futbol) we play alot of sports.

The thing is, the united kingdom is the biggest bunch of naysayers ive ever seen, You people cuss basketball claiming its "just another american made sport we can win at and only we play it" when its played all over the world, and is largly popular in europe all over the world period, with pros playing in our NBA right now from all different countries.

Then you people cuss baseball, diss the world series because "its not a world series if only america plays it" when again, baseball has players from all over latin america/asia playing and starring in the league as well.

The point of this is that the UK simply specializes in one sport, while north america specializes in many. Even if your ratio of boxers is REMOTELY a plausible argument (which it isnt, since the UK produces about 1 or 2 top fighters right now, and basically i never said the US alone, i said North america) the reality is, even your 2 top calzaghe/hatton continue to hold question marks as to how good they actually stack up against the competition in their respective divisions, due to the fact that they basically never leave england, and keep fighting a bunch of a bums for the most part.

So even if north america has this undercut ratio of fighters, who cares, we play ALOT of different sports at a high level, and specialize in more than just futbol.

I have never heard anyone knock basketball, its a good sport! But Baseball and American football on the other hand are very boring!! England will never want to be good at them sports!! But i you like them, keep them.

England play football and are one of the best teams, Rugby world champions, beating everyone at cricket and let not forget darts ha ha!! were good at UK sports like America are good at American sports.

The UK competes at everything and for such a small nation we do very well.

I'm not trying to disrespect America, the country is set up to win in at every sport! you go to college for being good at sport for **** sake!! if your are good a sports in the UK you get sent to work at 16yrs old and do sports part time!!

My message was only pointing out a couple of interesting stats. It would be interesting to see how many boxing gyms America has compared to the UK. It would be even more interesting to see how many people box in America compared to the UK! I'd bet the ratio is a lot higher than 5:1.

You cant use PR and Mexico is this debate, them countrys are poor and have to fight!! Medina was fighting pro at 12yrs old or something daft like that, Lads from the UK and US were picking spots and dating girls at the movies at that age!! The UK and US are both rich countrys who dont need to fight for money.

P.s. if you want to see robots then look at Ruiz, Tarver, Allen etc !

Cultural differences exist so there are emphasis on different sports. Social differences also affect what sport athletes pursue. Rich kids rarely become fighters - they've got money for tennis rackets, golf clubs, or baseball equipment - all sports that don't involved getting hit in the head so damn much!

I like that ShoBox makes it over to England every couple months. Through that channel, I've been able to see a number of fighters in the arena that says "Fight Skool" over the ring. And Ricky Hatton fans are probably the best boxing fans, period.

                What a great environment.

Now football - you guys's football - I just can't get into it. But I also post at IMDB sports board and that's the single most talked about sport. There's only a couple boxing fans on that one, but during a 0-0 game involving two teams with the word "United", there's all kinds of chatter.

When I had Fox Sports World, I'd stop on the soccer matches periodically. Just not for me, I guess. I like hockey better. If I'm going to see a 0-0 game, I want fast action and dudes hitting each other with sticks!
