Comments Thread For: Freddie Roach Hopes To Be Working With Victor Ortiz

On Saturday night, inside of the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, I spent some time backstage with Five-time Trainer of the Year Freddie Roach prior to his fighter Frankie Gomez’s bout with Lanard Lane.

Still a few hours away from Gomez’s match, Roach and I briefly discussed another pugilist he was recently seen working with in former welterweight champion Victor Ortiz.

Having suffered an upset loss to Josesito Lopez in June, Ortiz would part ways with his then-trainer Danny Garcia shortly after the setback.

Temporarily sidelined because of a second surgery for a broken jaw he suffered in his bout with Lopez, Ortiz is still finding time to stay in shape and was spotted working with Roach inside of his Wild Card Boxing Club in Los Angeles late last month.

Wrong move for Ortiz. His defence is nonexistent as it is. He will get tagged again and again.

Roach has always been big on Ortiz. I hope it works out for him whoever he chooses.

As far as Frankie Gomez is concerned, I wasn't impressed in the least with him. He fights in spurts and jumps in leaving himself wide open. I heard he was partying and not taking boxing seriously, so hopefully he's getting his **** together.

freddie's fighters eat punches for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Vic's already had his jaw surgically repaired once, don't see this ending well.

If ortiz has anything left in the tank..his jaw will be suspect for life now..I honestly don't think he should be allowed to keep fighting.

When a bone breaks, it heals even stronger. Do you think that Ortiz is the first fighter to break his jaw?

There have been many fighters who have suffered this injury and come back. No reason to believe Ortiz can't do it.

it was actually un lucky i dont think it was cause he had weak jaw. if you watch the replay he had his mouth open when he got hit was just an un lucky break and im sure it got ten times worse fighting 2 rounds with it already broke
