RIP Manny, BUT, he would always, always, always tell us how fighter A, can't keep up the pace, or fighter B is just waiting for the right moment to pounce.

Or go into the fight predetermining the winner, then riding his jock the whole fight, then back tracking around the 6-7th round.

yes. Manny was an important figure in boxing history, but that didn't make him an especially good colour-commentator.


i do miss Merchant, though. he believed in what he believed in and he was a straight-shooter. he didn't shift any goalposts, so to speak. for those reasons, i could respect him even when i disagreed with him.

WTF how can people actually like Lampley or Merchant. Lampley calls punches for the HBO fighter that doesn't even land. So if you were away from the TV and just listening to keep up with the fight Lampley would have you thinking the wrong person is winning the damn fight. Funniest thing Lampley abused a woman before but nobody constantly brings that up during his broadcast or interviews or threads that are about Lampley I wonder why that is(not really).

I don't like Merchant cause IMO its not his job to tell people what kind of boxing to like. He constantly degrades fighters who hit and don't get hit and use all the skills they have available to them. He blames the more skillful fighter for using all his skills and not fighting the less skilled fighters fight. That doesn't make sense why not criticize the least skilled fighter for not being better at their craft?

I hate the general tone of disrespect towards fighters in post-fight interviews. These HBO guys make their living off the hard work fighters put in, so the very least they could do is reflect that fact in how they talk about them. Kellerman's dismissive attitude towards Salido and Rosado was unbelievable.

Unfortunately, most fighters are desperate for a slot on HBO so there's little enough they can do or say about it.

Kellerman is a clueless piece of dung. Marchant's services should have been retained and Max's discarded.

Lampley should be discarded also, but we know he's too much of a mover at HBO now, he is inherent to the rotten culture that prevails at the network.

jim lampley and its not even close. i find rjj commentary to be okay, kellerman has grown on me but lamps ... the guy stopped calling good fights more than a decade ago. missing what's really landing / not landing in the exchanges are my biggest gripe. if you can't do that, you're not doing your job.
