Because he isn't... noone is the "face" of boxing like Tyson or Ali were. In fact hes nowhere even close, because outside of the US and maybe Mexico, noone even knows who Mayweather is, or cares for that matter.

Mayweather maybe the most popular boxer in the US, but thats all.

Boxing is a much more global sport today.

it's not a problem if the climax is the announcement of a mega-fight.

but when floyd-canelo is proposed for later in the year so you're left with guerrero or trout, then it's a big anti-climax.

These big "hold your breath for it" announcements don't make a bit of difference as there are only like 2 or 3 acceptable opponents for Floyd to fight and he will make up some excuse to try and weasel out of all of them.
