    pretty close in my eyes....

calzaghe held the WBO belt when it wasn't a world title. he did make 10 defences from 2004 & added the IBF belt with his win over lacy. best win was vs kessler. he also beat jones jr, hopkins, bika, lacy, manfredo jr, sheika, eubank & reid. the rest were european & domestic level. i was never a big fan of his style. a smaller chris byrd who did more slapping & shoe shining then punching sometimes. there are some good names there but was jones jr, eubank & hopkins at their best? still names none the less if you want to look at it that way. pascal, taylor, dirrell, abraham, johnson, bute, reid & mack with losses to kessler & ward. froch has fought much better competition & most of the guys he beat were in their prime other then reid & johnson. i like froch better as a fighter & he doesn't avoid anyone. calzaghe's 46-0 reminds me of valuev when he had the same record. it's a deceiving 46-0, there is something missing. he got that one signature win over kessler but RJJ & hopkins were not exactly at their best & you look at the rest of the names i listed they are fringe guys but then who the heck are the rest of these guys with bloated records? for boxing i think froch\kessler is a bigger fight.

There's no way it can be considered bigger by any stretch of the imagination. The other fight was for the undisputed SMW championship and recognition as best of the era. As much as I love this fight, it's about being #2. Kessler is probably a bigger star or at least better know compared to then, but I guess the venue and purses speak for themselves. $5m each to $2m each.

its not a bigger fight, but Froch now is bigger than Calzaghe was back then. Lots of people know Froch because of his epic run of battles against the top flight, but Calzaghe even in Britain was largely unknown when he was lining up Kessler, those who did know him recognised him s that guy who had fought a string of bums in Wales.

People tend to forget that Zaghes was a largely unrated unknown title wbo champ for a long time and it lent him no credit worldwide UNTIL he fought Kessler. After that win he became Eurofamous, and then finaly transferred it to the world stage when he went to America. Whereas Froch has credit worldwide going into the fight and before it.

They are both very late bloomers to be honest, both Carl and Joe.

It's not a bigger fight, just a better fight.

Dont Think an unknown could fill 55 thousand people in a stadium. I think Calzaghe really made his name after lacy and Kessler and he both claimed to be the best. I do agree though that both are late bloomers.

But in some ways it is a more important fight....both fighters really can't afford to loose. It's make or break.....both could possibly decide to retire after a loss. I know that Kessler seriously considers retiring even after a win.......

Wow thats just not true. Kessler has said multiple times he has a couple of years left in him. And if he loses he can always go for Froch - Kessler III. They will both fight on no matter what. Unless anyone gets brutally ko'd.

Ja....tror kun det er en Ward-kamp der kan tænde ham bagefter. Og den får han måske når han vinder.
