Comments Thread For: Sauerland: Kessler-Froch Bigger Than Calzaghe-Kessler

Promoter Kalle Sauerland of Sauerland Event views the super middleweight rematch between Mikkel Kessler and Carl Froch as being larger than Kessler's 2007 scrap with Joe Calzaghe. In that match, Kessler came to Cardiff and lost a twelve round decision to Calzaghe, but he won a tough twelve rounder over Froch in Denmark in 2010. Likely on May 25th, either in London or Manchester, Kessler and Froch will stake their IBF/WBA titles in a planned war.

    no it's not
Calzaghe-Kessker was to determine the undisputed champ at SMW
Froch-Kessler is just an exciting rematch
Ward is clearly the boss at SMW no matter who wins this fight
and Ward has already beaten them both

Financially this could be bigger. In terms of importance to the division, not quite.

I wonder what american station will pick this fight up? Calzaghe vs Kessler sold 50,000 tickets at the Millennium Stadium in wales. I doubt they could achieve even half that in london.

Calzaghe was 44-0 at the time and pretty much a whirlwind, yes Froch fight is bigger but as said simply because Kessler has more 2 prove since then and having beat Froch once. Overall though, Calzaghe fight meant more legacy wise. Hopkins fight was Calzaghe's stiffest test and he moved up in weight for it.

It is not a bigger fight and certainly not financially. Purses for the Calzaghe fight was 5M each. This is allegedly 2M each.

So in no way shape or form is this a bigger fight. It's just promotors hype.

                    NOT TRUE:
less money for fighters here and the division is only ANDRE WARD now,at that time CALZAGHE and KESSLER(undeafeted)were the best fighters of the division fighting each other and CALZAGHE showed his greatness!!!
