I think he could do ok once he figures out what sort of fighter he wants to be. He has to fully curb his recklessness which could land him in trouble. He's had a couple injury issues too which have halted his progress a bit which is a shame. It's a shame he seems to swell/bruise and cut so easily as that could be a big issue against certain fighters.

He might have enough to grab a world title in a few years time but that said he doesn't beat Andre Ward.

I'd like to see him against Abraham in a couple fights.

I'm a big fan of Groves & have been for a long time but I'm embarrassed right now. People like you who accuse world champions of ducking, or being scared, are just pathetic.

Can't you just be a fan of a boxer without all this childish name calling? What happened to boxing fans? When did they start acting like teenage girls (I like so & so, your favourite smells bad).

Just support your fighter. Go to his fights. That's what fans do. Leave the cyber warrior stuff for the under 12s.

          Rant over.

Im pretty sure he got dropped by froch in sparring so i doubt he beats froch with no headguard and 10 oz gloves at the moment but as froch gets older george would have a better chance

I like George, as a fighter and a person. He has good pop and is deceptively quick. I thought he showed an excellent defence against deGale. BUT ...

George needs to step it up and get a new promoter.

DeGale is going to be on Channel 5, and fighting 4-5 times this year in front of 2million television audiences. George only got out twice last year, and is stuck on BoxNation which has thousands of viewers. Even though George is better, deGale will be the household name.

I'd like to see him fight someone live next. Not another faded over-the-hill former contender. He is better than this now. He is world ranked, and needs to be fighting live, relevant fighters guys accordingly.

first of all johnson is shot, that win shouldnt impress anyone. second while i think groves can win a title from abraham i dont think he will ever be one of the best at 168.

its such a strong division. you got guys like anthony dirrell, stevenson, rodriguez, eubank and degale (who i thouth beat groves) coming up. all of whom i consider better prospects than groves. oosthuizen might be too i havent seen enough of him to tell yet.

that would make groves the sixth or seventh best prospect at the weight. then take all the guys currently on top of the division into account like ward, froch and bute.

i really dont see that bright a future for groves, hes a solid fighter but he isnt special imo. and hes in a very good division.

I don't think George is ready for the Cobra just yet, but say he fights 5 times in the next 2 years, then he would be, remember Carl will be 37.

                  Why not mate?

Agreed, Johnson is a shot fighter, but he still knows enough to trouble any 15 fight novice like Groves. It was a learning fight for George, and he looks to me like he's ready to step up a level, not to fight the likes of Ward, Froch and Kessler. But I think he would beat Abraham, Pavlik, Stieglitz, Adonis Stevenson

I like Groves.. 15 fights in? Johnson was a good opponent.

Obviously Lennox Lewis in his 15th fight fought 35-0 100% KO Ratio Gary Mason.

But you can't expect fighters these days to do what he did.

                  Overall Groves looking very good.

I think he will go far....

I didn't mean to cause offence, and I never called anyone names. I just noted that when Bute was a top undefeated champ, Ward wanted no part of him. If you look at the guys Ward has beaten, Kessler, Froch, Abraham, these guys have been tailor made for him. Bute would have caused him real problems, and Ward knew that

George did show recklessness, but he looks to have tightened up his defence, and was showing he could pick his shots against Johnson. Yeah I think in 12 months time, George would be good enough to beat Abraham by decision

I like George, he has lot's of talent

He needs to calm down in the ring, but I hope that will come with age and wisdom.

I'd like to see him against that south african kid, Tommy O
