While I agree Canelo has had an unbelievably protected/well guided career (WBC giving him a belt for beating Matthew Hatton lol), recently he did try to fight Paul Williams, James Kirkland, Victor Ortiz, Cotto and probably a couple others I was forgetting, but for one unfortunate reason or another those fights didn't happen, so he deserves some credit for that at the very least.

If he fights Trout next, that will give him the credibility he needs as Trout is the best fighter at 154.

I honestly thought GB would put him in there with Angulo, which imo would be another cherry picked fight since like I said, Angulo isn't very good.

He dodged Angulo long time before the Kirkland fight.
Is he is good or not that's your opinion he was ranked at the point to fight Canelo.

F' that! NOBODY gets credit on who they tried to fight. From now on, we're going to be using some unified rules of boxing fandom around here.

He didn't fight Paul Williams, James Kirkland, Ortiz, Cotto or ANY OTHER 154 CONTENDER! He fought Lopez, who looked small in there with Ortiz, and pulled him up to 154 for that fight. Lopez wasn't even a knockout puncher at 140.

I think Canelo is damn good but trying to take the justification of his position anywhere beyond the eye test should not be allowed.

In fact, it's hard to give him credit for fighting anyone that he's fought when he fought them. Cintron, ESPECIALLY AT 154, shouldn't be anybody's best win. Mosley hadn't won in multiple years before Canelo got Shane's name on his boxrec. Hell, Paul Williams was still looking gross after having been knocked out, Kirkland wasn't far from being knocked out in the first round himself and Ortiz is Ortiz.

Cotto losing is what kept him from getting a real respectable name on his ledger and they still thought about fighting Cotto despite that! His team talk a good game but what they are actually doing is feeding him bums until they can draw a big name in so, if he is exposed, they get paid and can say "well that was Mayweather" or "that was Martinez", etc.

It's a smart move, actually.
