i'm not at all impressed with donaire's year to the degree that others are.

he had a nice run, but WV2 lost to arce. he became exhausted and was stopped. arce was starting to have trouble against rojas, and it's very likely that he quit. donaire was his last fight. nishioka didn't even show up, and it was his last fight. and mathewhola?

any win can be discredited, and i don't want to make it appear as if i believe donaire had a bad year, or that he accomplished nothing. he had a very good year. it was one of the best in boxing.

but did he have the best year?

in 50 years will people say "you know, mathebula was a hell of a win?"
    not likely.

    in 50 years: "mathewhola?"

you know what they'll never forget?
    marquez, marquez, ra ra ra.

the man sent manny pacquiao face first into the canvas.

juan manuel marquez knocked manny pacquiao out cold. it still hasn't sunk in.

happy holidays to all my bscene / nsb homebruhs.

they've got an award for "fighter of the year" as well, and i'd give it to marquez.

it's my opinion that marquez accomplishments (one meaningful fight, against pacquiao, and a negligible tune up,) outweigh donaire's.

and i don't think it was the fight of the year. rios and alvarado was a much better fight. much better.

LMFAO Nonito FOTY on paper maybe. I heard of Paper Champs but never a Paper Fighter of the Year before. Oh well. Always new stuff happening in boxing.
How??? Weren't you one of the many people saying Donaire would never fight Nishioka???

There is only one fight left for Donaire at 22.... Mares isn't happening.... Donaire has been in the division for only one year and has the best resume at 122 out of everybody else

Cool.... This type of scenario has happened before..... And if history is any indication Donaire should win it

Nishioka - ranked #1, the real WBC champ (was only stripped of the title)
Mathebula - IBF champ, almost no one has looked good against him and that includes Caballero, very tall and rangy fighter
Vazquez Jr. - former WBO champ, ranked top ten best SBW, only one loss, young and hungry, good power
Arce - former WBO SBW champ (vacated title), beat wilfredo vazquez jr for the WBO title

on top of all of this donaire became the first boxer to do 24/7/365 random drug testing...

Thanks for the Viloria props. He sure deserves it. Wish he'd get on HBO or Showtime.

That's impressive. Now that I read a couple of posts on here I can see why Donaire would get it because of his work ethic and participation in year round random drug tests but he needs to step it up next year and fight some of the other names being thrown around that can put up a challenge for him.
it kills you becuase truth kills you ..even you admit it in the bold. i never said pac won , i said "winning" before the ko .anyone who has seen the fight cant deny that...

not only is donaire the deserving fighter for this award , he's also the only guy doing real OST , unlike floyd whose lone purpose to his OST is for show ..but we already know his testing is garbage

MrJake is politically correct in calling Nonito a Fiipino-American. In my opinion he's a Filipino second and American first. Back home in the states, Nonito doesn't even know what to do with his pinoy christmas lantern. LOL
