I have no problem with Donaire getting the award. He won a title off of WV2, he unified against Mathebula, and he beat the best guy in the weight class against Nishioka. That is a very solid year. (Arce was a joke, admittedly.)

Marquez did knock out Pacquiao which is huge but otherwise he had a very quiet year. I don't think he should get the award based on just that win.

Arce is a future HOF. WV2 is a joke who was stopped by Seven in his previous fight before fighting Nonito for a title that meant nothing. Nonito was pretty unimpressive in that fight too

I don't think the steroids are relevant here but the prob I have is that he simply scored a KO on a guy he was losing to. And that's it. KO of the year? YES! But you don't earn FOTY on one punch. You earn it by doing exactly what Donaire did.

What did Donaire do? It's not like he moved up to lightweight and beat Broner or Gamboa. He beat 4 guys he was favored against and none of them even fought back

Donaire has no significant wins this year. The Montiell and Arce KOs were impressive but they were vs smaller boxers. Its pat due time for Donaire to fight real comp.

Top 10. BS. Those guys had to be sold onto the top 10. Arce, WV2 and Nishioka had to be SOLD as legit competition. Real FOTY dont need that.

Nonito getting called one of the biggest duckers in one thread, FOTY in another. LMFAO Nonito FOTY on paper maybe. I heard of Paper Champs but never a Paper Fighter of the Year before. Oh well. Always new stuff happening in boxing.

nobody deserves it more than nonito..if foty was based on one win alone for the whole year, then by all means give it to jmm ..but this award is about what a fighter has done in a year , thats why it's called "fighter of the year"....jmm as one worthy win this year and like someone else already said , he was losing before landing that one punch ko...

Reading this line always kills me. He was losing before he got the KO. Ha ha ha ha. He won the whole fight. He may have been down by a couple of points on the score cards but dude dropped Pacquiao in the 3rd and laid him out in the round he was supposedly losing in with 1 second on the clock. That's impressive. Now that I read a couple of posts on here I can see why Donaire would get it because of his work ethic and participation in year round random drug tests but he needs to step it up next year and fight some of the other names being thrown around that can put up a challenge for him.
