to say donaire had no significant wins is ridiculous. Nishioki was #1 ranbked 122 lb fighter who hadnt lost in 8 yrs. the ease with which Donaire dispatched him made people think it was an easy fight. Donaires wins over arce, Vazquez and mathebula are way better than 2 wins over Morales. Plus, Khan was coming off a loss in his last fight. Donaire's yr was way more impressive as all 4 of his wins were against legit top 10 contenders with one being over the consensus #1 (although Mares wouldve been a tougher challenge) if garcia took a tough fight for his 3rd fight, such as Mattyse or Maidana, then Id agree.
a more legit argument can be made for Marquez bc he had the biggest win of the yr. but, I dont think u can discount Marquez su****ious body change.
I actually think Ward should be considered top 5 in fighter of yr discussions as his win over Dawson was more impressive than any win all yr other than Marquez ko of PacComment

Marquez deserved it hands down. Manny hasn't been KO'd in ages and the way he did it to one of the top dogs of the sport should have easily had him FOTY. Looks like Boxingscene trying to build Donaire up after Pacquiao's KO loss.Comment

Donaire deserves it he beat really good fighters and made them look like bums. Plus he's the most active. He's the only one who's paved the way for real drug testing and it ain't smokescreen like what Floyd does (who himself by the way tested 3x for steroids).
Marquez does not deserve any consideration because he was losing that fight when he landed a perfect lucky punch. Plus we all know his body and strength was not natural.
Danny Garcia was impressive next to Donaire. He rose from one of those up and comers to world best in one year's time. He should be Mr. Significant.Comment

That sounds fair, Donaire had a tremendous year and wiped out the top guys. JMM or Mares would have been good mentions too. Let's not forget Carlos Abregu either....3-0 with 3 KO's in 2012, even stomped out Dulorme.
Jack Culcay had 4 fights in 2012, 4-0, 4 KO's.....

Donaire was a clear favorite against everyone he fought this year. Also none of his opponents fought back. To me JMM is hands down the fighter of the year. Knocking out Pacquiao is an achievement that far eclipses cleaning out 122 against fighters who won't fight back, regardless of how good they are supposed to be. Donaire had a good solid run this year but chances are he'll never do anything in his career that comes close to the accomplishment of Marquez this year.Comment

Did Marquez allow himself to tested 24/7/365? No...probably b/c of Memo. I give Floyd credit for initiating testing to be in boxing. But what Donaire is doing, took volutary testing in boxing into another level. That you have to give credit to. Plus he fought 4x in one year with top 10competition.Comment
