Here you see two conflicting views of the sport.

Arum sees it as a business to be manipulated, using his fighters as pawns, to sacrifice or build up so he can profit more.

Cotto sees it as his profession and duty to seek out bigger challenges rather than bigger paydays. I am not a fan of his to be honest, but more fighters need to think like this. Especially Mayweather and Pacquiao.

      Sour G****s.

Arum isn't the perfect promoter like some people think he is, plenty of his fighters get put in a dumb match-ups that kill a big fight.

From recent memory Juanma Lopez vs. Orlando Salido.

Another recent fight was Brandon Rios vs Abril. Yes Rios got the gift but that was a pointless fight against a guy that made Rios look like very ordinary.

      From the past few years.

      Margarito vs. Mosley
      Pavlik vs. Hopkins

Honestly if Pacquiao retired today Top Rank would be in deep shit, their second biggest draw Chavez jr didn't sign an extension so who knows what he's going to do when his contract is up.

Which fighter is going to provide the leverage Arum has right now with HBO promoting Pacquiao? Arum already burned his bridges at SHO, good luck with them buying fights The Top Rank infrastructure is weak, once Pacquiao goes away the house of cards falls.

They did good signing Oscar Valdez and Jose Ramirez but those guys are years away from becoming something big, and seeing the job they are doing with Benavidez who knows how long.

I'm not saying Top Rank would go away but they move down big time in the pecking order.

Looks like Arum is pissed that Cotto turned down his cash cow fighter to fight on his own card, sell out his own arena, and have a very good fight. While, Manny - his cash cow fighter - got iced and is now debating what to do with the rest of his life/career.

Piss off Bob Arum, you slimy piece of rat ****.

Canelo, each fight, is proving himself to be a strong, dangerous youthful fighter. Absolutely demolished a guy that broke victor ortiz' jaw. Funny you should say 'what has canelo done'? Let me throw that back at you....what has guerrero done?

Inb4 mayweather fights an inferior fighter in guerrero, then pushes hard as hell to get a fight with pacquiao. Mayweather isnt getting any younger, and canelo is only getting better.

Canelo and Martinez are two fights id like to see for mayweather before he retires. Sadly, ill feel extremely fortunate if just one of those fights happen. Robert guerrero....really?
Isn't Mayweather fighting in May and September? Guerrero then Canelo it's looking like. See what happens first.

Arum is right, dumb for Cotto to fight Trout
in fact, dumb for him to fight at JMW period
Floyd was ok, he's not a real JMW himself
but everyone else there is gonna be too much for Cotto
he should just retire, he's way past it and can't make WW anymore

The fact is that Cotto was dead meat no matter who he faced. The worst case scenario was Pacquiao who would've decapitated him. Canelo probably would've maimed him for life. His only chance was that Trout was not that good; but it no longer takes a good fight to beat him.

IN an effort to avoid the all time great Manny Pacquiao - he opted for Trout. Not a bad choice but Miguel underestimated Trout too much. I did not see the real Cotto in the fight.

Being a promoter of the fight does not mean you will not receive the punches. This was demonstrated by De La Hoya some years ago.

Manny turned down the fight if he couldn't have a catchweight.

Are you really saying that Cotto avoided Manny by fighting Trout after Manny walked away from negotiations?
