The overhand right is not used so much because its a telegraphed punch that leaves you off balance and its hard to follow up with anything.
A straight right will hit the target a lot faster than an overhand right will & the chances are if you throw an overhand right, your opponent will see it coming and take most of the sting off it ala Maidana vs Khan or they will plaster you with a counter left hook as you lean into it.
The overhand right has been used since before MMA was even thought of.
