Comments Thread For: Gamboa Dropped Hard, But Defeats Gutsy Farenas

MGM Grand, Las Vegas - In a bout for the WBA interim-super featherweight title, Yuriorkis Gamboa (22-0, 16KOs) survived some unsteady moments to win a lopsided twelve round unanimous decision over Michael Farenas (34-4-4, 26KOs). The scores were 117-109, 118-108 and 117-108. It was Gamboa's first fight since last September's technical decision win over Daniel Ponce De Leon.

Gutsy performance by farenas. I didnt think the fight would make it past 5.

      Gamboa defintely had ring rust.

I like the power that Farenas showed...given it was my first time seeing him fight...

Anyway...I thought Gamboa had a good showing given the layoff....the question is...who's next?

I give Gamboa a C+. He had Farenas hurt plenty of times, had him cut over both eyes, knocked him down twice, but couldn't finish the deal. Plus he seemed to take a lot of breaks to just plod around the ring. Even though there was ring rust I felt as if he could have done better if he took it more seriously, and I did feel as if Gamboa had a lot left in the tank at the end.

Yeah, by a 130 pounder. Wait til Gamboa moves up. No chance at the higher weight classes

                Floyd's retirement just ended.

I think floyd will fight gamboa or canelo right now.

Agreed, Gamboa did get hit with a number of good hits, but they weren't in combos and were mostly big punches with nothing before or after them. Plus with Gamboa weighing in come fight night pretty high, he was comfortable in his weight and not suffering any ill effects of weight watching.

Gamboa looked like crap. But much respect to Farenas, he showed a lot of heart and grit.
