Some have this thought that he's just so much better than Trout/Molina/Lara/Vanes, when in essence, he hasn't done anything to separate himself from them. Some fans rank him closer to Mayweather than they do to the other 154lb fighters. When there's a group of fans that hold him in such high regard, how could he NOT receive criticism? Look at his track record and tell me that there's nothing wrong with the way he's being developed. He's just a side-show like Chavez Jr, even worse than that because Chavez is probably killing himself to make MW. At least Chavez is fighting MWs.
There's always going to be a certain degree of hype surrounding fighters like Canelo but that's mainly from the fans and promoters. So what if he's labelled as a top 3 LMW? Does that really make it the case?

What you can't deny is that he's tried to make fights with naturally bigger guys in PW and Kirkland and they've fell through for some reason or another. Now tell me if he had fought Kirkland or PW and won would there be any arguments of him being a top 3 LMW? I don't think so.

Fact is Canelo shows potential but until he steps up no one really knows how good he actually is but what he's achieved thus far considering his age is no joke. I'd like to see the Trout fight at this time more than anybody else but boxing doesn't work like that if there is more money elsewhere that's where the promoters will go.
