So many of the same posters saying he's drained at 147 now saying he's too small for 154.

I don't think he's too small at all. Cotto has never been a fighter that cleaned out divisions. He'll lose to some guys, and not to others, and Trout was one he lost to. His being past prime has more to do with his struggles than weight.

He's about 3 inches shorter than the majority of JMW champs over the last 20 years, and has a 3 or 4 inch shorter reach.

If he's not too small for JMW, he's certainly too small too small to rule it.

Cotto hasn't been prime since 2008. He's been past prime-still good since 2009. I thought he won 4-5 rounds against Trout, it was a close fight that Trout made a clear win by taking those last two rounds clearly.

Cotto should go after an easier title against someone else in the Top 10 like Bundrage, than another Top 10 fighter like Angulo or Kirkland, and than maybe Canelo or a Trout rematch.

He's never been good enough to rule any division though. So size isn't the reason he can't rule 154.

He moved up because he was having trouble making 147 comfortably
When you move up you need to fight smarter

Congratulations on your discovery of America TS.

I still wonder if Cotto can reaaly not make 147 anymore or if it is just that he is too lazy to go the extra yard.

To be fair, he's been in some tough divisions. There's plenty of divisions where a guy with cotto's talent would rule.

I think he is too small for the JMW division but at the same time he can no longer make the Welterweight division. In a way it is similar to Ricky Hatton being too small for the Welterweight division but no longer being able to make the Jr Welterweight division.

To be honest saying that they're too small may not be the correct thing to say they're not good enough is perhaps more appropriate. In the lower weight classes they could rely on being physically stronger than the opponent, being able too bully and hurt them. When they move up they have to rely on their skill which is evidently lacking. Saying they're too small for the division is akin to saying Mayweather and Pacquiao are too small for the Welterweight division because they no longer hold the same one punch power they had in the lower divisions.
