I'm not surprised Trout rose to the occasion this fight. He studied Cotto well and had him whiffing a lot. That jab was really impressive.

Cotto is still really skillful. Diaz has him as prepared as he's ever been. It's clear he slowed down though just a bit. He's also much too small to fight the good guys at 154. The size difference was a bit of a factor with Cotto reaching a lot.

Trout deserves a lot of credit for outboxing Cotto very clearly without having to stalk him. He is now a force to be reckoned with. Canelo doesn't have many options left Trout might get his chance.

As for Miguel it depends how he wants to look at it. He's good enough still with Diaz's guidence to compete at a high level. He's too small and not good enough to win in this division. Canelo would overpower him and knock him out.

Big cotto fan here..thought the scores were a little wide..I had it more like 116-112 but trout clearly won the fight..I thought cotto was gonna be in deep water in this fight honestly..Idk where cotto goes from here.I wouldn't necessarily say he's done..but idk where he would go from here..

I think Trout out boxes Canelo every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Smarter fighter, slightly quicker. Only way Canelo can win is knock out. Possible, jury is still out on Trout having a good chin.

I like Cotto but his team are idiots for taking this fight. All he had to do was wait after 9-15 (Canelo Lopez fight) and took the Canelo fight for Dec or a future date. Instead, he takes the Trout fight with a 1 mil dol purse + upside and loses, when he could've got a 5 mil dol purse + upside by fighting Canelo in a major ppv super fight. Doesn't make any sense at all.

I knew Trout was a gonna be a live dog in there. The guy is long and skilled. But props to Trout. Very humble guy. I think he could give any boxer out there problems

Come on everyone! Sugar Shane had a couple losses at Jmw and came back to win a title at Welterweight. Everyone said he was done and it took a few more years for that to finally be true. Give Cotto some credit for hanging tough with a big, smart and younger (less shop worn) fighter.

I would like to know what Trout weighed today?? He looked freaking huge in there. He could fight at middleweight with no problem.

He's not going to retire..he's going to become the name fighter who helps introduce the next wave to the public..considering he wasn't knocked out he could still potentially fight Canelo since the only reason Canelo wanted to fight him was to put the name on his resume. Won't be PPV tho..
