Comments Thread For: Cotto To Ponder His Future Over The Coming Weeks

NEW YORK — Austin Trout assured anyone who would listen that Miguel Cotto and his handlers made a serious matchmaking mistake by picking him as Cotto’s opponent tonight. Wow, was Trout right. The left-handed Trout out-boxed and even out-slugged the rugged Cotto during their 12-round fight and won a unanimous decision to retain his WBA super welterweight championship in an action-packed main event at Madison Square Garden. The scores were 117-111, 117-111, 119-109.

Cotto had a long and great career, but he just doesn't have it anymore. Sure he could beat up on class b fighters but he's better than that, so he should hang them up. Nothing to be ashamed of he was great

I don't think that beating a faded Cotto means you just established as a top 10 P4P fighter.

Trout is no joke. Cotto has nothing to be ashamed of. He could of went the easy route and picked Bundrage to preserve the Canelo fight on May 5th.

              Time to hang 'em up

Miguel should definitely retire. He didn't look very good tonight. It's clear he can no longer win the big fights, so why even go on? HOF career, but now is the time to walk away.

Not the ideal way to go out, I know, but at least he may have ushered in a new star.
